Terrierman Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I'm less interested in how it fishes than how it looks. Sounds incredible in that department. Do follow up please.
5bites Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 A single strand of metallic would look pretty cool in that silk over the guide foot. Almost like it was all that was holding it. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
5bites Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Please keep us posted though. I'm curious of the action and power.
Members dmorgan66 Posted February 22, 2015 Members Posted February 22, 2015 Sounds like a nice deal. A great winter project.
kjackson Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Whoa up Newt! Thought the 2500 was one of the old itty-bitties like Don Iovino used to collect and sell. Is/was there a newer JDM version? No-- I got this when Iovino was in full form. Haven't used it much, but I'm thinking RPS's rod might make a good complement. Randy--If you're thinking of testing threads, perhaps you should try some low-test Crystal Fireline...that might disappear as well and could be easier to to wrap.
timinmo Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Seems like I remember some one building one and using mono as the wrap and that it disappeared. It is hard to find light action casting rods. I built two in the last year using drop shot rod blanks. One was on a MHX DS821 blank and the other on a Northfork Composites DS6107-1 blank. Both 6'10" and rated 1/8 to 3/8. I have not tried the Ned rig yet, but both are for throwing small light soft plastics.

Thought perhaps my memory was off. Had a very good friend whose wife used to fish one when I lived in IA. Neat little reel, and one of the best candidates for handling 6# line.
rps Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 Crystal fire line? Interesting idea. When I test run the silk I will test run that as well.
kjackson Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I think have some lighter pound tests if you want to try them as well. I believe I have two and four-pound test and perhaps even one-pound if I can find it. If you want, I'll strip off a few feet for your test, and you can try them. Just PM me your address.
Jason R. Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I love that clear wrap look. I think I will do that on my next fly rod. Your rod sounds like it will be sweet. Can't wait to see pics. http://flyinthesouth.com/
