Feathers and Fins Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 When I use to use braid for saltwater I just used threading needles ran it up through the braid and cut out the knot process, never had an issue using that technique but you had to do it prior to going out as it was time consuming. 30ft of Fluorocarbon leader was max and average was 15ft. Lightest braid I did it on was 30lb but I suppose it could be done even lighter. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Fish24/7 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I am not calling you out, but I am curious why you not a fan. I have made two spiral wrapped micro guide bait cast rods and have not found any disadvantages. To the contrary, I have found the lighter over all weight and much lighter tip weight give superior "feel." Which is why I have the parts for a third such rod upstairs waiting on me have had too many micro guides fall off, slip out, pull out, break off, ect on baitcasting rods, whether it was a $100 or $400 rod it was the micro guides would have issues during casting or hook setting no issues with micro guides on spinning gear to report
rps Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 have had too many micro guides fall off, slip out, pull out, break off, ect on baitcasting rods, whether it was a $100 or $400 rod it was the micro guides would have issues during casting or hook setting no issues with micro guides on spinning gear to report The first spiral wrap micro guide rod I made has had a problem with the guides breaking. I chose the wrong brand/type. I have since found solutions. I tie with Recoil Titanium http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/RECOIL-Guides/RSPGB-Black-Pearl-Recoil-Micro-Guides or Pac Bay Minima 3 guides. http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/Micro-Guides_2/TFX3XG-Titanium-Minima-Micro-Fly-Guide As for the guides pulling out, I use a Forhan lock finish brefore I epoxy. and here There are many fine makers. Specify the components and for way less than $400 you can have something better than the commercially made sticks you have tried.
Jim Elam Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Would not pair micro guides with a leader system. Have tried better profile knots than double uni you will be sorry. get regular guides and you have a reliable and versatile setup IMO. Micros are a hassle in the cold / freeze up is bad.
