Members Alby Fish Posted March 8, 2015 Members Posted March 8, 2015 Alright guy thanks a lot! It seems tough to find a good mushroom jig. I think (know) you will like them. I spoke with Dave and he told me all about his jig head and answered any questions that I had. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but I do like them also for the reasons that Quillback stated above. Also, I like to support who I can instead of the larger stores, don't get me wrong I still go to the larger stores. LOL Albyfish
Members Alby Fish Posted March 8, 2015 Members Posted March 8, 2015 Really great article! It's nice to learn the history of all the different jig heads around and man there's a ton of them. I find when i'm fishing plastics i'm almost always using a jig head of some sort. Rarely do i need to do a Texas rig on most of the smaller rivers and streams i'm fishing. Smallieguy87, What rivers do you fish? I am in St. Louis and wanting to do some smallmouth fishing in the smaller rivers and I see you are from Washington county. A buddy of mine used to go down Highway 21 years ago but doesn't really remember enough to give me directions. Are these public areas? Thanks Albyfish Smallieguy87 1
Members JRD Posted March 9, 2015 Members Posted March 9, 2015 Creek off 21 is Joachim creek, Missed many college classes because of that creek. Highway 55 to Festus exit, go "West" to Highway P. The bridge I used to park at was in Hematite I think .

Smithvillesteve Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I contacted Dave about 2 weeks ago and ordered some of his jig heads. I got them in the mail about 3-4 days later. He also answered all my questions. I had used the Z Man jig heads from Cabela's in early feb. and lost all 15 heads i bought in 3 days of fishing. No weed guard. I fished TR the last 3 days and lost one of Dave's jig heads. I would really recommend anyone wanting to use the Ned Rig to contact Dave. And for a guy living in Kansas he is really a nice guy. My buddy and I fished the Big M area friday afternoon and saturday. The water temp was 40-41 degrees. We struggled but caught a few fish. He used a jerk bait both days and caught 10 bass with 7 keepers. I caught 10 bass with only 1 keeper. That was on a jerk bait. Caught the rest on the Ned but caught smaller fish than my buddy. It was soooooo nice just to get out and fish however. Hoping to get back this weekend to fish in the OAF tournament. And hopefully meet some of you guys and put a face to your name.

Thanks Albyfish Joachim does have some smallmouth but id recommend mineral fork. It used to be that you could park your car on 47HWY by the bridge but from what I gather that's a good way to get a car towed so I'd recommend Kingston access off dugout road. If you want to venture a little further there's also access to mineral fork off of F HWY and of course you have big river which can be great smallmouth fishing especially around the park and Merrill horse access. If you need any help finding places or need more detailed directions shoot me a PM Alby
fishingaddiction Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Good read, thanks for posting the article Dave. I had forgotten most of the time frames and who invented what type of jig. These guys were cutting edge with their creativity. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.

huntest Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Here is a bit of a rusty hook alert..... Before I knew better I glued up some ned rigs so I would have them ready and not have to fuss with the glue in the boat.....that "little" bit of rust formed by the contact of Zinkers and the hook is worse than I thought...it rendered the hook weaker than 6lb Invisx... when I got hung, the hook broke instead of the line. Just saying that a biggun may break a "slightly" rusted hook. Ham 1

Just saying that a biggun may break a "slightly" rusted hook. Definitely. You only want to rig up one or two beforehand. I usually have a couple of 1/16 and 1/8 rigged up in PBJ and a green, everything else is done on the water. The Mustads and Gamakatsus will hold up to it better than others. It won't happen overnight, but will if you leave them rigged for any length of time. Ham 1
