The 30 size Trio carries 200 yards of 6lb line and 160 of 8. That's more than I will ever need. At least here in freshwater.

I here ha Rick. I use the line capacity thing strictly as an indicator of spool diameter and how easily line will come off the spool.

This wired2fish review might have sealed the deal for me. You get a braid ready spool in addition to the florocarbon spool. Unless I read it wrong?

You get both with the Garcia Orra SX Spinning for sure I have 2 of them.

You bet. I had it in my hand before I bought it. For whites and hybrids if that tells you anything. But there is no spare spool. There is that.

I can't remember a time where I ever used the spare spool. Ever. I take great efforts too get the mono on correctly and trail it out behind the boat to get it on tight and twist free. Of course, I'm a Nano Man now so I don't ever need a spare spool.

greenhead, are they as good as advertised?

I've been wanting to try nano for awhile but had heard some mixed things about it. As far as a spare spool goes i have yet to use one but i understand the want or need. spool size and overall size of the reel are important to me as i usually think Shimano's 2500's are perfect but i do have a few Diawa 2500's(about the size of shimano 3000's?) and 1 Quantum smoke pt30 spinning reel that i enjoy. They all will hold a lot more line then i will need to use. I feel all those would do fine for a ned rig you'd just need to find what felt best with the rod. Another good reel to consider around the $99 mark would be the Shimano Symetre 2500.

Amen. Wider is better.

I have found that using cheaper reels in the Shimano line work just as well as the more expensive ones.

For that matter, I'm quite content with much lesser expensive gear these days. Rods and reels. I've got expensive rods and reels and for the money, they don't offer a significant advantage.

I bought a $30 Diawa graphite rod and a $20 Quantum reel for spoons and I'll be darn if it's not perfect for it. Sensitive and strong backbone. Using the right line helps too.

Just my 2 cents. When you're wife is super budget conscious it's hard to buy hi quality because the tongue lashing isn't worth it. So I get by just fine. :-)

I agree.

I have always been on the frugal side. Those $20-$30 reels work just as good and last just as long as the $100 ones.

Now of course they won't last forever, but neither do the high dollar ones. But I can get a good 5 years usually. I didn't get any more than that out of the top of line ones.
