Fish24/7 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Kietech's maybe a "swimbait", but not the "swimbaits" we're talking about.lol A backlash with braid and a heavy single swimbait(2oz plus) causes a "shock load" on the line and will usually cause it to snap. And i did initially use a 30lbs braid with a mono leader, but lost too many baits due to the braid to mono connection breaking or coming apart (invisa-braid). A 7:1 reel personally is too fast for a glide bait as you can easily over work the bait, which can give the impression that it doesnt swim very well. I use 15lbs test big game mono for up to 3oz baits and 20 or 25lbs test for heavier baits. Check your line frequently for Knicks and cuts. I'll often retie 2 to 4 times during the day. been there..many years ago the very first time I ever tried a BIG swimbait I was using braid. I rared back and gave it my best hard cast and she went "SNAP!!" line broke,There went my brand new $40 swimbait that had never even touched a drop of water sailing through the air ,and it landed up in the woods somewhere never to be seen again...lesson learned about how to lob instead of cast,,mono instead of braids
abkeenan Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 ALL really good info Richy and others. Looks like I'll be throwing it on straight MONO or a co-poly. I recently started using P-Line CXX for night fishing because it has blue florescent in it for the black light and I am more than impressed with it. Stuff is crazy strong in the 17lb diameter I use.

CXX is darn nice stuff. I know of a few guys out west that use it on swimbaits with good results
Moswimb8slinger Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 I second evilcatfish, alot of guys use the CXX out west with there swimbaits. Another choice is Maxima ultra-green(i believe that's the name) mono. Kevin (Kgb swimbaits in Harrison) throws his 8.5oz. Glide with it and that's the line Bill Semential (spro BBZ1 designer) has used for years.
Fish24/7 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Maxima is a great line, I used it until my line supplier quit carrying it when they went to Pline
