Blll Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 About ready for a new on board charger. Anyone have experience with the Stealth Charging System? Lots of rumors about the pros using them but not much actual "thumbs up" from anyone. I know Danny won't sponsor anyone. What do you think? Beaver seems like a perfect place to use it with some decent long runs.

Maybe regular plug in chargers, but there are several brands of DC style chargers that are not all one in the same. Stealth I have heard makes a quality one.

The "big motor" charges the cranking battery anyway. Using the outboard VR to charge your trolling motor batteries ain't gonna fly. It would overheat the stator and VR, and void any engine warranty I'm pretty sure. 40amp Outboard charging systems are TOUCHY and EXPENSIVE to repair.
Dewayne French Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Yes it is a 12 volt DC charger that depending on the size of the unit runs off your Big motor ie..starting battery, then hooks to the other batteries and charges them after it tops off the starting battery. I loved mine it was great and I never had a problem with it. There is also a 110 AC model that you can purchase if there is ever a need and even a cord that connects to your tow rig that allows you to use the alternator from the Tow rig. I had that on my Rig and between that and the DC charger on the boat I rarely even used the AC 110 charger that came with the boat. I talked with Danny multiple times on the phone and although I never personal met him, he always was very helpful and very easy to understand and work with. Also mine had a gauge on the console and you could watch it to help determine when to use and start the big motor it was also Alarmed to sound when it was going to low.

I'm betting they know a thing or two about all this. Just a hunch.
David Unnerstall Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I just looked at the site: http://www.stealth1charging.com/Conclusion.html They do, in fact, claim the outboard can charge the trolling motor battery with this device. Maybe they can adjust the resistance to keep the load at what the outboard charging system is designed for, but it is a risk. Part of the risk is sending too much current to the trolling motor battery making the cranking battery insufficiently charged to turn over the outboard. I agree with Wrench: the outboard charging is designed to charge only the cranking motor battery.
