Members Austin Lehmann Posted March 21, 2015 Members Posted March 21, 2015 A few keeper fish on grubs today. Noticed a lot of fish in very backs of creeks and cuts just cruising very shallow. No luck with these has anyone seen this or had any luck with them?
SplitG2 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Saw this as well today. The fish I saw shallow were slow and rooting around and under rocks. All good fish. I noticed one on his side and thought he might not be doing well but was actually trying to peek under a rock. When he saw me, he slowly slipped back to deeper water.
SplitG2 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Not with the fish we saw. Ours were deeper. 10-15' on pb&j ned. Boring banks with little timber.

Sounds like they are up hunting craws. Wonder if there is some life cycle thing going on with the craws. Fish Wilson 1
Longball22 Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I saw some up shallow as well. I actually found one dock that is super shallow and was able to pull a few keepers out from under it with the Ned. My first day on the water with your jigs dave, and I was more than impressed!
Members Austin Lehmann Posted March 22, 2015 Author Members Posted March 22, 2015 The Ned Rig is a new thing to me. I'm reading all kinds of things about the heads and what baits to use but how are you guys fishing it and in what areas. I've tried it with no luck yet.

Could be - I was checking the fish I caught Friday, never saw antennae's sticking out of their throats. But they are eating something, the spots are fat.

Austin, I'm not real bright sometimes so it helps when people sgeimplify these things for me. Get you some Strike King Zeroes or Z-Man Zinkers in green pumpkin and PBJ (peanut butter & jelly). Don't bother with the new Z-Man TRD baits. The Zeroes or Zinkers cut in half work just as good or better. Contact dtrs5kprs on this site and order some 1/8-ounce and 1/16-ounce heads with Mustad hooks from him. I'd recommend you start with at least a dozen of each. Even with his very good wire weedguard, you're just going to hang up at times and lose some baits. Use only Loctite gel superglue in the squeeze bottle to attach the bait to the jighead and only use one tiny drop. Cheap super glue will melt the Elaztech plastic and just doesn't work worth a crap. Be certain to get the bait very, very straight on the hook before glueing it. I like to put the bait on first and make sure it's all straight then pull the head of the bait back down just enough to put the tiny drop of super glue on the top of the bait. Push the bait back up against the head but only enough to make it touch the flat part of the mushroom head and hold for about 15 seconds. If you push too hard, it was cause the plastic to flare out and be ugly. Throw the rig on a spinning rod with either 6-pound mono or 8-pound Invisiz-X fluorocarbon. Good luck out there.
