rainbow Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 This is always a good read. Looks like the trophy area is holding good numbers and larger fish than the lake as a whole. I remember my first trip to Taney 40 years ago and the fish we caught were much bigger on average than what we catch now. We wet waded by the dam on that July trip and there might have been 10 or 12 other people there on that Saturday afternoon.
Johnsfolly Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 May be that the days of 10 to 12 people only on a Satruday afternoon are gone. Phil's doing too good a job promoting the trout fishing. Ham, Phil Lilley, Deadstream and 1 other 4
rainbow Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 That was over 40 years ago and the "strip" was nothing. Most anything in Branson was in downtown. We put in at the old Roark resort and motored up past what is now Lilley's. Might have seen a dozen other boats. You're right those days are long gone.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 28, 2015 Author Root Admin Posted March 28, 2015 I remember fishing below the dam in 1975. I was in high school. It was in the fall during the spawn. They were lined up shoulder to shoulder from well above outlet #2 down to rebar. And it wasn't a weekend... Not disputing you... Taney's a great fishing resource and I promote it because of my business. But more importantly, I try to educate people on how to catch trout. More people should learn how to fish, enjoy the outdoors, hunt- whatever. If we don't teach and promote, we'll lose the resource. shawncat 1
rainbow Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 That day we were below the steps at the hatchery and it seemed there were very few people there. It was about 100 degrees and late in the afternoon. We went there after fishing out of a boat. At least where we were there were very few people That is what I remember but it was a long time ago. Maybe just a fluke at that time or at my advanced age the old memory is slipping.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 28, 2015 Author Root Admin Posted March 28, 2015 I'm sure there are times now that there's not many ppl on the lake, either below the dam wading or on the lake in boats. There are definitely more ppl fishing Taney that 40 years ago too...
Johnsfolly Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Phil - I meant no offense. You're videos got me hooked onto this site. I'm constantly talking or dreaming about the fishing at Taney an now other great fishing spots inthe Ozarks. I've become a much better jig fisherman watching your videos. I took my family out on one of your boats last October. There was no flow and we didn't catch many trout, but they still talk about going back.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 29, 2015 Author Root Admin Posted March 29, 2015 None taken. Hope I didn't sound like I did! Thank you!
Johnsfolly Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I know there are enough trolls out there, I didn't want to come off as one. Ham 1
