bobby b. Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Hello - I'm new to this forum. We have recently built a house on the lake south of Branson West (off of Talking Rocks Rd). Hope to semi retire there in a couple of years. I find the clear water of TR harder to fish than Truman. At any rate, a few questions. What color of jerk baits are best in these upcoming weeks. Normally I would expect to try to get these down to 5 ft or so. How does the clear water affect this type of fishing? Go deeper? From reading some post on this forum, it seems that the bass action is better up towards SK rather than the darn area. Any comments in this regard? Looking for some help. Thx Bob
Dutch Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Your end of the lake is very good. The last time I jerked that part we caught bass on chrome/black, chartruse, and gold/black suspending short billed.
Bill Babler Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Bob, check out the archives posted by administration on early season tablerock. Great info, even though I wrote most of it. Also check out the post on table rock from now on because they are going to be coming in heavy on stickbait fishing. Am just about to do a Spring article on the art of the stick with lots of great input from other guides and lots of pic's. You could not spend your money any wiser than to take a guide trip with some of these great Table Rock guides that fish the stickbait. It is truely an art. Buster, Bill Beck and Tim Paige are as good as they get. You will see not only color but most important presentation. It will work anywhere in the White River chain. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Don't overlook the X-Rap in Gold, while it doesn't exhibit a lot of gold it does show a lot perch. I like the Ghost also. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Bill Babler Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Wayne, I really agree with ya. The X-Rap is a great stick, that throws with ease and never needs a tune job. Depth range between 4 and 6ft. depending on line size, and length of cast. It varies from the custom suspending sticks in the fact that it won't achieve the depth that the rogues achieve. 6 to 14ft. with the same variables. As the water warms and the fish tend to rise in the water column, I really like it along with all the pointers. We'll analize all these baits comming up toot-sweet. Thanks, Great imput. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Fishin' Freak Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 So you guys fish the rogues in the early season and the pointers and x-raps later??????
Fishin' Freak Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I like to throw my stick baits on spinning tackle. I have a 6'2 medium action rod. I like this only for comfort reasons and added distance with casts with some lighter jerkbaits. I have been throwing mine on 10 lb test line but may down size to 8 pound line. I also prefer mono over floro because it gives me a little stretch. Is this a totally abnormal set up in your guys mind???
CMAC Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I purchased several of the new Xcalibur twitch baits. I really like their quality and they don't require to much modification out of the box.
bassman1308 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 i made a run to bps today and bought several long bill x-raps. they are certainly 'pretty'. i hope the tr bass like um. TO SKMO: i also finally decided on and purchased a 797c si hummingbird combo unit. i hope it preforms like other si owners say it does. i'm putting it on the console and might get a lcx-27 for the tm later.
dwiebenga Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I just booked a trip to the Rock over Easter. Is this still a good time for suspended jerbaits around Shell Knob to Campbell Point. That is where I spend most of my time. Thanks for all the awesome advice.
