Long time lurker making a post of our trip today. We put in around 8am today at Indian point, was a little breezy and a little mist, water was not as dirty as I expected. Caught a couple of 15" lm on a crankbait along the rocks, wind picked up to where it was a pain to keep the boat in place so we ran to find somewhere without so much wind. Ran toward the bluffs near moonshine beach and switched to a ned rig with a watermellon color, caught a couple more lm on the rock/bluff transitions, moved again because of the wind and a sm on a little flat. All the fish were in about 15' of water. We gave up around 1pm, the wind and falling temps made the run from around the branson belle back to ip pretty miserable.(may need a chiropractor after all the pounding!)

Thanks to all who post on oa, makes going out more enjoyable for a casual angler when you have a little bit of an idea what to do and where to do it

Hey ssc, thanks for the report. Glad to have you aboard. Might be a pain, but sometimes you do right by yourself to keep yourself out there in that wind. It will really activate the fish. You still had a decent day. Thanks again for posting.

Being from nebraska, i am predisposed to loathe the wind because it seems like its either calm or 30+ gusts.... no in between. At that rate, its hard to maintain much for boat control on a 100 acre impoundment.

The 1-2 weeks I spend each year on the rock are what remind me theres more to learn with fishing than what becomes habit. The best days ive had on TR in the spring are all the days I would've just cracked a cold one and watched fishing shows on dvr if back at home. The worse the weather is, seems like the better this lake fishes.

One of the best nasty weather lakes in the country. Big fish weather and weather that causes "stupid smallmouth syndrome".

The prettier the weather, the more they sull up and hide (and wait for a nasty day).

I agree with quillback! We were a bit underdressed, the wet air and wind was cutting through our jackets, plus some first outing of the year trolling motor issues were not helping. I think I saw 3 boats on the water the whole time and there was only one other trailer in the lot when we returned.

Hopefully you guys fishing this weekend will have the same amount competition :)

If you are going to fish Table Rock in nasty weather, that usually means late fall thru early spring. You need good clothing. Start with a good quality base layer like UnderArmor or for those too tall/fat for anything in normal sizes, Cabela's makes a good big man's polar weight base layer.

Finish your fashionable ensemble with GoreTex ... BPS 100MPH or Cabela's Guidewear are great choices.

Yes, it's expensive. But being warm and dry is priceless on a 30-degree day with mixed rain, sleet and snow and north winds 10-20 mph.

What Champ said!

I broke down and bought Cabela's Guidewear bib overalls and goretex parka. They make all the difference. Before I bought the good all weather gear, I went fishing all day in the rain with Buster and I thought I was going to drown without even falling in the lake. I am still looking for gloves that work for me.
