Kayser Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Oh, and I've caught a couple in LOZ on small flukes. Hurricane deck area. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Johnsfolly Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 Did some small creek fishing today using small pieces of worms. I had heard that this creek held white suckers. I caught a bunch of creek chubs including this spawning male. I didn't catch a white sucker, but did land a new species for 2015. I believe it is a common shiner and have one I will key out at work tomorrow. I'll have to take out my daughter, since she has not either of these species. They were definitely not shy. I caught over two dozen fish in a couple of hours.
Johnsfolly Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Ended up catching a channel catfish this evening. Now I'm up to 17 species for 2015.
Clay Goforth Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 This is fun... Great thread! What I have caught this year: - White Bass - Walleye - Bluegill - Black Crappie - White Crappie - Largemouth - Kentucky - Rainbow Trout - Brown Trout - Cutthroat Trout At one point I counted up all the species I have caught in my lifetime so far... I was surprised. If I remember correctly, I was up past 120 different species. Fun exercise, nonetheless. Johnsfolly Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Clay, in terms of lifetime totals you're well ahead of me. I only have 89 different freshwater and saltwater species that I can remember. It's killing me not to break 100. There are three on your list for this year that I have never caught, cutthroat trout, walleye, and white bass. I hope to change some of that this year. I did catch an easy species on Thursday. The longear sunfish. I haven't even tried for these guys yet this year, but now its number 18 for 2015. Clay Goforth 1
Ham Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I'll add some photos soon. I'm at 22 species for the year. I should easily pass last year's 28 species since I made the salty trip and got a quick five species down there. i got a Green Sunfish day before yesterday. No photo on him. I'm get a pretty one soon and take a photo of it instead. Last six species. Drum, Yellow Bass, Black Crappie, Channel Cat, Long Ear Sunfish, and Green Sunfish. Johnsfolly Posted April 26, 2015 Author Posted April 26, 2015 Took my daughter out to a small creek to fish yesterday the 25th. We fished worms and she was using a bobber. She caught 27 fish in a couple of hours. Better yet she was able to catch two new species to her 2015 fishing list. She is now uo to 8 different species. She added this creek chub to her list. She also caught this longear sunfish. I didn't catch any new fish species. However, helping her achieve her goals is just as important and I enjoy the time with her on the water. We did find a small pool that held a bunch of darters with several males in their breeding colors. I didn't have any tiny flies small enough to catch these fish, but the waterproof camera was able to get these shots. Best I can tell from the coloration is that these are Orangethroat darters.
