At 12.5 feet it is at the old low water bridge and I have floated and waded it several time at that or a little higher. If you go way up stream the creek is a lot smaller and some good wading but you may have to swim through some deeper holes. We have waded above Harmon a few times and the fishing was always good. No monsters but a lot of 12-14 inch smallmouth and good ozark bass.

I got used to the guage before they tore the slab out. I had to re-learn what levels I consider good for floating.

Floated from Pyatt to Snow on 4/30 and the water was at about 11.5 and very clear. Found lots of smallmouth on bed they were not interested in anything we threw. But we did catch several nice one that had already spawned. Everywhere we found beds we would catch a lot of goggle eyes, which I love to catch. We found several places where there were trees across the creek, and one where we had to get out of the kayak and drag them through the grass. The best fishing was in the middle section between pyatt and snow and wish we had not spent so much time fishing the first couple mile and should have fished the last section harder but was running short on time. The best baits were small green craws and tubes. Best flies were woolly buggers and pistol pete in dark olive.

budman - Any idea what the flow (cfs) was like when you floated Pyatt to Snow in April? I'm looking to do a CC float next weekend but struggling to get a good feel on what the gage and cfs should be at for a decent float.

I can give you a better idea on cfs when I get back to work and check my float log. But as a general rule of thumb creeks are high-fishable at the 75th percentile on the usgs gauges.

Gotcha, good rule of thumb I'll start to consider. Still got a ways to go for CC at Kelly's, crossing my fingers that the storm moving through that area now doesn't dump too much water. Appears it may be a dry week ahead.

Maybe by next weekend. I went back in time to see how fast it falls out. The creek hasn't been fishable in almost a month! As wet as the ground is its really slowing the fall. I'd say it's remotely possible that it will be float fishable by next weekend, but not very likely.

That being said, I had a banner trip on high water out there once. Just don't remember how high it was.

You can go to the USGS site and put in the dates you want to check for and get gage height, precipitation, and flow. On April 30 the gage height was 11.54 ft and flowing 353 CFS. Was water was really clear and there had been no rain all week. Right now it is about 2 feet higher and flowing about 3 times as much CFS. Don't think I would float and fish today.

I read on one of these threads someone said anything over 400cfs was asking for trouble. In studying the usgs data, I don't see how the flow will be below 400cfs next weekend... but if you were there at 353cfs and it was clear and good fishing, can 400-500cfs really be that bad? Heck I've never been good at stalking spooky fish so maybe a slight stain could play into my favor.

Another question, any idea who shuttles on CC? I called Dally's and while they don't, they mentioned that maybe Copper Johns up on Bull Shoals may.

Jimmy walker with crooked creek canoe is the only guy I know. Pm me if you can't find his number.

He can give you an eyes on report too. The creek can be a challenging float in high water, but I've hammered big fish on falling water that was still clearing before. It was a summer trip and I caught them on wiggle warts and spinner baits.
