Jerry Rapp Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 does Sunnen Lake (YMCA camp) about 10 miles west of Potosi still produce big blue gills? In the 70's the bluegill fishing was awesome.
jdmidwest Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I fished Sunnen for bass a couple of times, nothing spectacular. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Al Agnew Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Before the upper lake gave way and flooded out everything, the lower Taum Sauk power plant lake used to produce big redear and bluegill. Don't know how it is these days. Warmouth are kinda scattered everywhere. I've probably caught more on the upper St. Francis than anywhere else, but I've caught one now and then on just about every river I fish fairly regularly. The slower, murkier rivers seem to have better populations, but they are still scarce compared to goggle-eye and the other sunfish species.
Members Daniel Clayton Posted May 11, 2016 Members Posted May 11, 2016 Fished Sunnen last week with my kids and we brought in about 24 bream total (mix of bluegill and red ear). Biggest ones were about half pound. Fished from dock, Im sure there are bigger ones out in deeper water. Johnsfolly 1
Johnsfolly Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Dan nice blugill! I love the hand size fish. Should have a god meal ahead with that catch!
