Smallieguy87 Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Ever since I saw the guy wading without any pants, I've avoided the area. See That title of "dickweed" is really showing! That was hilarious Ness. lol ness 1
Pat Magee Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Hey Pat, that area where all the logs were is where you should have been fishing......although I herd the fishing sucked......so bad MOsmallies was about to give up river fishing unless it was from a boat. I can't say I blame him. I hope the Coosa performed good??? I truly hope it serves you well....we are going to do some work week trips this year I have caught some of my biggest fish out of log piles, the bigger and more hairy the better. When I see a big pile of wood coming ahead I usually begin the process of sneaking up on it. That is exactly where we fished. The only problem was there were only a couple of fish relating to the wood piles and we fished them high/low/sideways six ways to Sunday when we saw them. I could tell he was defeated, everything was just about perfect for catching fish and we barely had anything to show for it. That is enough to make anyone give up on kayak fishing. I can happily report that we are already talking about some more trips so it didn't last long! The Coosa was great, I definitely enjoy the better vantage point and stability. I am slightly disappointed I haven't landed a nice fish in it yet but that will come soon, I'm sure. MOsmallies 1
Jerry Rapp Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 fyi, we went down to K Bridge yesterday afternoon. The stage was about 4 ft, about 1.5 higher than summer flow. Lots of fish activity. Gar rolling on the upper end of the gravel bar, lots of pumpkinseeds and minnow activity. Two young uns were wading around the rock jetty and one was throwing a little rebel craw and caught several small smallies and numerous punkinseeds. 4 or 5 jet boats had put in there. A couple ran by time to time. I just have to think the wake they put out has to have an influence on beds. Maybe it is for the better as it dirties the water along the shores and sloughs some.

Hi Jerry, Have you been to our stretch of the river, near the common ground? I'm on Mayberry Rd. Saw your note to the group a while back. Look forward to meeting you. I haven't been down to my cabin in a few months. Curious how the river looks. Couple nice spots just downstream from the pavilion, wondering if they have changed. All this talk about possible issues upstream certainly has me concerned. Such a beautiful section...and I've managed to catch-photo-release nice smallies since I bought the property. Nothing ever too big, but enough to keep me interested. A MDC-tagged one, 2 years back.
