We got on the water at 1 and fished until 5:30 today. We had a half dozen on spinnerbaits around lay downs. We then drug a swing jig with a brush hog for 8 or 9 on a secondary point and also got several topwater fish in bays where the wind was laying down.

The fluke was a bust and we never tried out the Ned. What a georgous day.

It was so pretty with so few boats, I didn't let it bother me when a pair of KVD wannabees in matching shirts blasted in and cut us off as we were fishing a cut. "Sorry, dude, trying to win a tournament". I wasn't going to let the Jackleg tread on my cloud. We just moved on.

OK, now I'm glad I'm not there at the same time...

Then again, I used to fish with a guy who was in a little band. We used to sing Patsy Cline in the rain at Truman.

Hahaha.........probably best you didn't hear our foolishness.:-P

Easier said then done sometimes, but, glad to hear you were able to shake off poor behavior from those jersey jockeys.

Gotta do something to pass the time at Truman.

I might have lost my nice-guy card at that point. Undoubtedly some yay-hoos with misplaced mindsets fishing the Cops for Kids derby.

You did the right thing, and I'd do the same.

But, it's fun to think of possible retaliation, like firing up the big motor, cruising by them at maximum wake generating speed, then stopping about 50 yards in front of them and saying, "Sorry but I'm fishing for fun."

Again, I would never actually do that, but fun to think about.

Directly from the Cops for Kids Rule section:

"Sportsmanship: Courtesy and safety are expected from each contestant. Life jackets and kill switches must be worn during take-off and when outboard motor is running. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the boats during the tournament. A contestant having a protest must submit it in writing to the Tournament Director within fifteen minutes of the closing of weigh-in."

It's in all the rules, I just picked this one because it was on my mind. I've had this discussion with lots of different folks.

Often (and unfortunately), a lot of competitors misread the first line "Courtesy and safety are expected from each contestant." - I hear "Yep, that means staying away from a competitors boat unless they say it's ok to get close, make sure we don't swamp a competitor's boat and stuff like that - I got it."

Only partially correct - NO WHERE THAT I HAVE EVER READ in any tournament rules is it stated that competitors are to be respectful, considerate, etc. only to OTHER COMPETITORS - all the rules I've read say that EACH COMPETITOR is to be respectful, considerate, etc. - period - everyone on the lake is to receive the same treatment (which should be nothing short of a gentlemen / lady).

Sadly, it seems that lots of tournament folks miss that part....

I fish tournaments, but I am NOT a "tournament guy"

Although, the Legend Jersey that Miss Sherry (my loving bride) got me is awfully slick :D

Amen. Especially when it rained every time we went.

Donna and I have had some very good days on Truman. Invariably, the bite was current-related and they shut the water off on Friday afternoon/evening, leaving me scratching my head on derby day while the local talent plundered their brushpiles for a 20-pound bag.

I think guys like you who have caught a trout on the Rock should belong to a exclusive club. Have caught most species over the years but never a trout. Any pointers?
