Members LarryC Posted May 25, 2015 Members Posted May 25, 2015 With a handle like that I had to look it up. Notropis is a genus of fish in the family Cyprinidae, the carps and minnows. They are known commonly as eastern shiners. They are native to North America. I bet that is a picture of one in your avatar. I'll stick with learning about walleye for the present. Members uofastudent Posted May 25, 2015 Members Posted May 25, 2015 I caught a few short walleye right on point 12 in July so I would venture to say not all go to the dam.
Tanderson15 Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 My first two years I launch at PC and never have to go past coppermine. Since then it's RB to the dam. The end of last year and so far this year closer to the dam. Is it just me but has the thermocline been hard to see last couple years. I have good HDS units but I have not been able to identify it?
JohnF52 Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Notropis, Yes you gave me good information, and I am still trying to make use of it, when the mud clears enough. I live up the White a little from Sequoyah.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 Terry it was tricky to find last year, I was dropping my thermometer a lot to verify temps at different depths. If you want to go see the "Nursery for walleye" I can take you to it and make you smile all day seeing them, If the waters clear I will drop the camera and you can see them without even hurting them. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Tanderson15 Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 That sounds interesting. Let's do it when we get some clear water. I like to?

Tanderson15 Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 Jeb, I don't think she will allow me to buy any more units since these are only 2 years old. Maybe I should play with them more.
Ron Burgundy Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 caught this guy at Bull Shoals yesterday, what causes this?....I've seen pics of fish like this before but first I've caught. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford

Genetic spinal deformity, similar to scoliosis in humans. It typically happens to a very small percentage of fish. When weighing and measuring fish caught in population samples I would routinely see one of these in every few hundred fish.
