Bass Enforcer Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I have a humminbird 800 series. I got to the lake this weekend and went to turn on my unit and it acted as if it were shorted out. When I unplugged it I shook it and it had water in it. It's less than 2 years old. Does anyone know what humminbird will do about it based on their experience?
5bites Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 No older than it is I bet they stand behind it. I had to use their customer service once but it was in a new unit. I hope it works out and keep us posted please.
Fish24/7 Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 they know their stuff leaks, and has had condensation problems year after year, yet they continue to manufacture it, they claim they can't stop the problem , they blame humidity and the weather. now if the condensation problem lies in the gap/void between the display and the lens, then why not change the design so there's no void/gap?? I had to file a case with BBB against Humminbird about 10yrs ago for moisture problems that could not be resolved. Humminbird tried telling me a fogged up screen on a brand new unit was normal, and if I just waited a few hours the "fog" would/might go away.. or I could send it in for repairs $$$, or I could "upgrade" $$$$ well, after about 2 months of mailing electronics back and forth the 5th replacement unit failed and I made the call to BBB BBB made them give my $500 back, and I got a phone call from headquarters in Eufala , boy was she unhappy
Bass Enforcer Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Yikes. Yeah I hope everything works out for me. Thanks guys. I'll keep ya posted.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Maybe some dessicant cans or rice in a ziplock bag?
5bites Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I've been running birds for a few years now and have had zero moisture/condensation problems on my 700, 800, and 900 series units. I'm sure it happens obviously as the op has problems now but I can't remember another time Ive heard of the si units having a hard time with this. Im not saying the older ones didn't have that problem especially since Fish24/7 had a really bad time but the newer units don't seem to have that reputation.
Quillback Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I haven't had any condensation or water issues. I did have a 798 that the power button got stuck in the on, or pushed in position, sent it in and they fixed it no charge.
Sac River Jim Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 my 1158c has water in it too. you can hear it sloshing in mine its so bad. i called and talked to them at marine repair and its gonna cost me 356 bucks to have it either repaired or replaced by hummingbird. they said if it fries bird will give me a refurbished unit. i hit a really hard rain just south of greenfield the other day and the unit was laying flat, screen down with the screen saver on. by time i got to the lake the screen saver had alot of water in it. i was told water can get in the unit thru the power button. the display or thru the connection on the back. heres marine repair's link. http://marinerepaircenter.com/
5bites Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 That sucks to hear. So humminbird will replace it free if it fries? I know you can't help it while fishing but I always tell people never ever never ever ever never tow with your graph on the boat. It's an added pain at the ramp but I'm a paranoid person with that stuff.
