Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like Championship Marine is the key. I am a mess around any fix it job, ( I make Tim the Tool Man look good!) You guys are the best.

Championship marine might do good work but are very expensive. Had them clean the bottom of my ski boat and they charged me several hundred dollars more than anyplace else. My wife was the one that took the boat to them, and they took her to the cleaners. Never going back.

Try a product called Wizards Finish cut. www.wizardsproducts.com Best clear coat compound that I ever have used. No wax or silicone!

I had my 20ft bass boat cleaned and buffed from the rub rail down which took them 10 hours to do and was only charged for 5. Looked brand new when I got it back first week of April and still looks awesome. I fish 3 to 5 days a week.

I've never used championship marine; so can't speak for them. But thinking out loud here.........is cheaper always better? Was that an apples to apples comparison with the other shops. Did they have other steps or materials in the process they used to cause the price to be higher?..........again.........I have no dog in this hunt; over the years, I've learned the hard way that paying a fair price for quality work is worth a few extra bucks and cheaper isn't always the way to go.

But for the original poster, I agree with trying the Harbor Freight $30 buffer; it's fine for the average user. Might be worth a shot with some rubbing compound. And if you've never done any buffing; checkout some YouTube vids for tutorials.:-)

I had Specialized Marine in Kimberling City do some work on my boat last year, and they did amazing. If it were not for a mark on the rub rail, I would have no idea where the biggest gouge was. I think I was charged less than $200 for 3 or 4 good sized scratches and gouges, which I thought was very fair.

I do know that they usually reserve fiberglass work for when they are slow during the fall and winter, so it might be tough getting them to bite during the summer, unless you catch them on a slow day/week.

A few bucks is nothing to complain about. A few hundred bucks makes a big difference. I feel like they took advantage of my wife. My opinion.
