Mitch f Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I wonder if body temperature compared to metabolism is a completely linear function? For instance, we all know fish metabolism gets higher as the water warms, but does it keep getting higher as the water gets HOT?. Interesting, The only thing I can say is in the winter you can have zero bites in a known smallmouth hole at 8am, then go upstream 1 mile and 10 minutes later catch a ton of largemouth at a different hole. Then a couple of hours later go back and start catching smallmouth at your original spot. Is the water temp slightly different? Maybe...Is it the difference between LM and SM? joeD Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Coosa-If you have a time limit, then I'd rather wake up later and fish later. Now, if your limitation is mileage, with no restrictions on going home, then I would put on first thing in the morning and fish to last light. Spend as much time on the water as possible. Again, no time is better than another. Just be on the water and cast everywhere all the time.
MOPanfisher Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That's why I love gravel bar camping. Usually we get up before daylight. One will go to the nearest riffle and throw a buzz bait. One or two will go to the nearest good hole and fish jigs for gogglers, greenies, etc. for supper fish, and one will sleep in and then build up the fire and start getting breakfast ready. Comw back to camp wet and chilled to the smell of coffee perking. Seldom do we hit the river floating again until 9 or 10. But yeah some of the dog days and faster water can provide some stellar smallmouth fishing.
