I really like to see kids having fun. And I can understand how much fun that might be. But the parents do not seem to be anywhere around most of the time. For all the little good it would do anyway. I would be worried sick if they were mine running around on what city people consider a county lane. Here is a little info for some of you who might be doing this.

If your child does not qualify for a drivers license he cannot be driving on any road. You better have real good insurance. Since if the child has a accident and the insurance company finds out they are not going to pay a dime if he is not a qualified driver.

And it gets better if that child has a accident was to get hit by a car etc. Whoes fault is it. It is yours of course. It is yours no matter who hit who are what hit him.

And It gets better still. If the above accident requires the the notification of the sheriff. He might be taking you to jail and you might be there for awhile. It is called CHILD ENDANGERMENT

I also see a lot of parents riding with the kids on these things supervising. Well that is fine but the child was still the driver and you let him drive so nothing changes.

I always wonder jow these parents can do this when they realize the danger and finacial liability that can

befall them.

Hmmmm, I agree to an extent, but have to say not all should be judged in such a way. In rural areas, (which country lane infers), it is a way of life as well as sometimes necessary for underage kids to drive. I have been driving on my own since I was 12 or 13 in between our farms shuttling equipment, hauling hay, etc. It was always on low traffic dirt roads, maybe the occasional paved road and always where/how my parents told me to do it. There is rarely a day that I dont see someone under 16 driving something around my house. Yes I am talking about an agricultural setting, but as long as they aren't being stupid, whats the harm? I'd rather a kid learn to drive prior to getting a license than get a license and then learn to drive. Just my opinion ;)

But at LOZ there is not a whole lot of kids driving for agricultural purposes.

I wish they would! :)

I'm one of the parents. My son is 9 and drives my ranger crew as much or more then I do. When I put the finishing boat in he pulls the trailer back to the house and meets me at the dock.

In my opinion driving them on private property is fine, heck set up ramps and obstacles if you want to, thats up to the adult/parents. Driving them on the road where highway type vehicles routinely travel at speed is asking for trouble.

Driving on private property IS FINE. I have a neighbor whos 8 yr old drive a golf cart around our suvdivision that are private roads. The problem there is missouri law says any private subdivision road dedicated to public use ( first respondes, mail, ups etc) are not private roads for the purpose of the law. I only brought this up so anyone can cover their butt. I keep waiting for a very terrible accident to occure on O-275. out of Laurie. I never have a problem with them. But then I have a lot of practice dodging deer on a almost daily basis. So I am more alert about things coming out of nowhere at me. But many people are not.

There was a young boy riding his go cart on a public road....rural, lightly traveled, but still public. Car topped a hill as he came off of a side road in the small valley below the hill and the car couldn't stop in time. He died at the scene. I can only imagine the pain for both the driver of the car and more so for the parents.

The only charge filed was related to child endangerment....on the parents.

This was in central arkansas, just down the road from my father's place, a road I have been on countless times in my life. I had seen the boy riding his go cart a number of times and always commented to my girls that I better never see them driving our cart or side by side off our property.

Each time we pass the memorial in the ditch, it serves as a sharp reminder and reinforces my stance with my daughters to not allowing them to drive any of our toys on anything other than our property.

Stay safe.
