I recently saw a report that there are more kids brought to ER for cigarette burns trying to get the ticks off than there are for problems with a tick bite.
Two of the guys went into the woods to get a better look at an Eagles nest and came out with 17 Wood ticks and a Deer Tick, most not attached but I thought I would video this one on my Brother In Law. lol
If they have been there a while they will cement themselve to you so pry up from the back end. They will also poop all over which is a good sign you have one in your hair if you see pepper on your fingers.
If you heat them they spit their toxin into you and cause more chance of infection.

Pulling off slowly prevents lyme?

I just pluck them off with my fingers then seal them in a piece of tape, hoping they die slowly over a period of weeks. I have always been amazed at the number of folks who simply freak out at a tick on them, maybe I am just jaded about it.

Can't figure out how to post a picture from this I Pad, but the tick remover I use is a thin piece of metal, slightly spooned or keeled, pointy on the business end with a gradually narrowing slot from the point down the keel a little ways. Seems to always get the head and all.

I know enough people that got lymes disease that I am a lot more concerned about tick bites than I used to be, but I still get a few each summer.

Video says world record for 18 ticks... Bull, I doubled that when I was a kid- I just didn't tell anyone at school.

Al, that tick remover sounds like a cuticle knife. I've just started clipping some of the meat out with fingernail clippers, then squeeze a little to make it bleed and purge the area a bit. Alcohol or flame before the cut, then maybe some antibiotic ointment afterwards- quick smear and I'm off.

I'm starting to get leery of ticks again- friend of mine developed the red meat allergy from a bite. I don't think I could survive 8 months on just poultry...

Try covering them with vasoline or any oil product & wait until they back out. The oil cuts off their ability to breath (takes about 10-15 min.).

Give it a try.

Guys, I've had Lyme and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. I now inspect my whole body after a trip in the woods. The antibodies are in you for life and another full blown infection can be worse.

well I will not say exactky where i had one. but I first noticed it when I used the bathroom. Its removal was not pleasant.

We have had some people around here very sick and one lady I knew was in a doma for several weeks. all they could find was that it must have been from a tick bite. I try real hard to avoid them

My grandmother got Rocky Mountian Fever from a tick years ago, she was being treated for the flu or a bad cold at first, her doctor had her on his mind one night when she came back in that day even worse after a week of antibiotics for the cold, he remembered her saying she had been to Hardy a couple weeks ago. He called her that night and had her get up there, she was at the point of Hallucinating, probably saved her permanent damage or even her life by him calling her that night.

I got bit by a tick about 15 years ago when at Hardy, and developed the traditional bullseye rash of Lyme. I went to the Doc, he tested me and it was negative, but he gave me some pills for the lyme anyways. Rash went away after a couple days of the pills, so wondered if I really had it?

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
