fishinwrench Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Before they started drawing the lake down the edges of seawalls and concrete ramps were a sure thing. It's not quite as dependable on those spots now, but the shallow jig bite is just as good.
Flatbottom Boy Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 We fished from 6pm to 2am last night. Before the sun went down is was a 3/4 white/chart spinner bait. They were very shallow in dirty water. Couldnt get any on the frog and buzzbait. After the lights went out we casted a blue/black 3/8 jig with a Havoc trailer. That was really a good time. Nothing really big to speak of but some really fat shorts and a keeper here and there. We casted the jig behind docks up against rock banks and seawalls.
Members NianguaMark Posted June 21, 2015 Author Members Posted June 21, 2015 I tried everything Saturday and Sunday morning. Everything caught was off black texas rigged worm. Couldn't get a bite on anything else I tried. Would have limited out both mornnings if 13 inches were keepers everything was shallow on rocks biggest was 17 inches couldn't find any big ones but this weekend was first time I've targeted bass in over 10 years since I've only had the fishing boat for 3 months
nomolites Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 You gotta be back up in there to have grass in the water...
fishinwrench Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 LOL, That is actually a anniversary pic. Fathers day last year. Same day, different fish
nomolites Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Nice! It's a good day when the big uns are eating; I'm looking forward to some upcoming time on the water even if the ijits will likely be out as well...the fish never seem to mind much if the fisherman can handle it.
Members Omega jig bass Posted June 22, 2015 Members Posted June 22, 2015 Wrench how do u find such nice fish shallow in the summer?
fishinwrench Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Finding them is easy, they are there. Catching them takes some effort that not many guys wanna do. You have to ease back in the quiet backends where nobody is stomping on docks or swimming. Turn the livewell pumps off, depthfinders off, and only use the trolling motor if you absoutely have to. Fish move up into those backends at night to feed and will hunker down and stay put until something scares them off. These 3 came off the same shallow dock recently in less than 20 seconds You have to have multiple rods rigged and ready, swing one fish in QUIETLY and grab another rod right away, swing another in and grab another rod, ect. If you take time to gawk at the first one, unhook him and high-five your partner... well while you were doing that all the others got the hell out of there. Get another bait in their face while they are still trying to figure out what just happened to their buddy. nomolites and conorsixtakc 2
