Codywskeeter1521 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Well I was the 2nd to last boat to leave and almost everybody went up towards point 15. I was the only one that went past piney. Hell I made it to mill creek. And I only ended up with 3. 2nd got I think a little over 14 lbs. and then the weights fell quick. Those guys that won. Seem to win about everytime I enter. They have that part of the lake dialed in. I think the big fish was 5 1/2. Wow awesome. I use to fish those Sunday torneys. There's alot of good fishermen that fish it. Due to work I haven't made it this year to donate my money lol. I've also had a hard time dialing in on that river bite.
Members Wart 57 Posted June 25, 2015 Members Posted June 25, 2015 Yep couldn't agree more. That 16lb sack I would venture to say came from the kimberling area. Not saying that there's not big fish in the james I've seen some huge sacks come out of there over the years. But it just seems to really be fishing hard. I'm one those boats that you see running that way and I personally appreciate you not leaking info. I'm sure the rest of the boats fill the same way. So thank you. I fish the James above Cape Fair quite a bit and also have fished a few of the Cape Fair tournaments. There are some big fish in the James and Flat Creek. What I am saying is it is way off of what it was 2 or 3 years ago as far as keeper fish. I don't think it has had any more bass fisherman up there now than it did say 5 years ago. I do agree most of the guys in the Cape Fair tournaments head down lake and that 16 lb bag came from down there. I do agree that those guys are tough on this lake but they head down lake more than not. Good Fishing Champ188, dtrs5kprs, magicwormman and 1 other 4

Since they opened that ski shop at cape it seems like when I go up the james I see more and more wave pusher's in the james and flat. Since there's not as much water up there as the main lake it might play a factor.. I dont know what's going on.

Something seems to be wrong as the LM population has gone way down. Have to think it could be with the water quality or something else is going on. The 3 to 5 lb fish are just not there. I used to be able to fish some points in the summer months in say 12 to 25 foot and load up with a football jig or brush hog. Not nearly as much action now. Wish we could get the answer. Good Fishing magicwormman and Codywskeeter1521 2
dtrs5kprs Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Sunday before last it took over 16 lbs (4 fish limit) to win the derby out of cape. There are some good ones up there Certainly, but it is just not as consistent up there as it once was. Could just be the loss of cover that is impacting the rest of the lake. Could be a bunch of filet knives too. Wouldn't take as much of that as folks like to think to do damage. Champ188 1
Members InPiney Posted June 25, 2015 Author Members Posted June 25, 2015 Thank you all for the comments. I too see those Sat/Sunday tourney boats running south, kids love watching them zoom past, so do I. I hope to get out this weekend and will post how it went. Good fishing. magicwormman 1
Champ188 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 It would be interesting to hear Kelly Power speak to this. He has fished that arm of the lake for a very long time and knows it quite well. Codywskeeter1521 and magicwormman 2

Champ188 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Wouldn't surprise me. He's hard to beat anywhere on TR and his son Kyle has turned into a pretty good sidekick. They're good folks. Codywskeeter1521 1
dtrs5kprs Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The upper James reminds me a bit of Smithville and Truman (not physically of course). Much tougher than they used to be, but a select few still catch them pretty well. The James used to instantly come to mind as the place to start on TR. Anymore it seems like you have to be in the clear water to consistently catch them. Codywskeeter1521 1
