OK. I'll play....

I, usually, get to take a couple of trips per year to fish TaneyComo. A few years ago, Leonard, another forum member, introduced me to the methods and flies used to fish at night with success. I have been hooked on night fishing, since then. I prefer to fish with friends, but if none are available, I don't mind fishing alone. However, one night I was fishing, between outlet #1 and #2 and not having a lot of success. There was a little bit of a crowd, early on, and a few newbies that kept turning on their lights. So, I decided to move down river, away from the crowds. So, I went back to the Pavilion and walked down to outlet #3. As I was walking downstream, I ran into a couple of guys coming out with their headlamps on and they were telling me that the fishing wasn't very good. (I wonder why? Hmmm) So, I walked all the way down the gravel bar past the big Root Ball. (It probably isn't there anymore as this was a couple of years ago) I had a #8 Purple UV and Black Hibernator tied on and I finally got where I wanted to fish. This was as far down from outlet #3 as I could walk.

There was a shallow Riffle section that spilled into the rest of the river, which was over my head. I started casting to the bottom section of the riffle and letting it swing out into the deeper water. Low and behold, I started picking up fish. I am an addict and that tug was my drug. I, happily, fed my addiction for the next 30 minutes, or so, before I heard a noise, across the river from me.

Now, this was about 2:30am and a light fog had started setting in. The noise that I heard was the growl of an animal and it sounded feline. Then I heard the crunching sound of something walking in the leaves across the river. Getting a little nervous, I shouted, "Hey!". The noise stopped, for a few seconds, and then picked up again. I could tell, by the sound, that whatever this was, it was directly across the river from me. So, I turned on my headlamp and, instantly, the light bounced off the fog around me and I couldn't see anything. I took my headlamp off and held it out facing the bank across the river and I saw 4 or 5 sets of Yellow eyes staring back at me.

I could not tell what they were. I turned the light off and, thinking I should head back to the truck, started reeling in my line. Then I heard more crunching noise and a splash coming from down river and another splash coming from up river. I, quickly, turned my light back on and shined it across the river. There were 2 sets of eyes missing from the group! I panned the light down river and saw a set of eyes coming across the river. I panned the light up river and saw the other set of eyes coming across the river. I was being surrounded and because of the fog, I still couldn't tell what it was.

I backed out of the river, constantly panning my light back and forth to keep track of where they were. They followed me all the way to the stairs and stopped as I started going up the stairs out of the river. To this day, I still do not know what they were. But I, definitely, felt like my place on the food chain had slipped a notch down, in the pecking order.

Got called out to fisherman that had been fishing at night in brackish water. They did not put their parking brake on and their truck rolled into the water and sank. I got called out to retrieve the truck by the tow truck company. Upon arriving, the watch commander told me that I was not getting in the water because of them....He pointed across the water to six pairs of eyes. There were six alligators 6-8 ft in size. I told the watch commander that I was there as a "commercial diver" with my own gear and was not there as a member of the Sheriff's Dive Team, nor was I using my dive team gear. In I went and after an hour of being under water in zero visibility muck, I collected my $150 and went home. Got chewed out Monday by my boss for my weekend swim the the gators....I can't believe that I have lived to the age I am now....

A friend and I was fishing a 15 acre MDC lake in Montgomery co. from a little 8' plastic Bass Tracker. We hadn't done much good and were back at the truck contemplating whether to call it a day or just chill until later in the evening and try again, when all of a sudden something the size of a small car fell out of the sky and landed in the lake making an enormous splash. The water was turned to a froth where it splashed down and 2' wakes lapped the bank for what seemed like forever as we stood there repeatedly asking each other what the hell just happened?

We decided that neither of us was comfortable going back out on the lake so we loaded up and left. On the way through Martinsburg we stopped at a gas station and used the pay phone to call MDC but couldn't come up with the number so I called the county sheriff's office and told them what had happened but they seemed very unimpressed/uninterested.

Meteor? Space debris? I have no other ideas, but if they ever drain Marshall Diggs lake there is something pretty big laying on the bottom of it.
