wareaglecamo Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I live in Springfield and usually fish Stockton or Table Rock . . . I'm looking for a bait shop or elsewhere to buy live crickets on my way to either lake . . . any advice on availability of live crickets in Springfield or in route to either lake would be very much appreciated . . . also any suggestions on preferred way to rig would be great:)
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I like to hook them through the shell back so their legs splay out. Pete
jpb2187 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Your best bet is to go to like Petsmart or Petco, they have giant cases of them in different sizes. I think they're like $.10 a piece.
Iclass Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 10 cents for ONE cricket?!? I've got $10k in my front yard Champ188 1
Nitroman Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 HITCH-N-POST: located @ 5439 MO. STATE HWY 165 ( ACROSS THE ROAD FROM ENTRANCE INTO TABLE ROCK LAKE STATE PARK ) PHONE # 1-417-334-3395. Try rigging split shot 18 inches above the hook ( NO BOBBER ) vary the spilt shot weight to keep it on the bottom. Smallest hook possible, when rigged hook point & barb should be buried into chest of cricket coming up from below cricket & hook shank should be @ rear end of cricket with line tie on top side of cricket, cricket should hang straight on hook. I would start looking in about 30 feet of water, & go deeper if necessary, I have seen them caught in water 40+ feet deep. Probably going to need a bunch of crickets as the small gills we pick off your offering many times before it gets to the bigger ones. But, there a bunch of " BIG UN'S " out there we have had guests catch & clean in excess of 400 in a weeks time !!!!!!! " GOOD LUCK " !!!!!!! moguy1973 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I like to hook them through the shell back so their legs splay out. Pete I agree with this on how to rig them. As a kid all my grandpa had us use for blue gill were worms and crickets. we would use a size 6 or so aberdeen hook and hook it just behind their head and have it come out the end of their body with the hook pointing up. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Members vpk2488 Posted July 26, 2015 Members Posted July 26, 2015 Saw some in outdoors section of Walmart in Republic. Don't know about Walmarts in Springfield though and don't remember price or number of crickets.
