Night fishing Stockton lake July 24th

We fished my first time in a late night tournament, took 7th of 31. That's with just three fish, one being 6 lber and won big bass of the night. Only thing is I think I could've had more but I was having trouble feeling the bottom on a medium bait caster rod. I'm used to more shallow water like the James. Any suggestions to make it more sensitive? Or just keep practicing?

Well Eric a little more info would help. How deep were you fishing? What kind of baits were you using, etc? The more we know the more we can help you out. BTW: Congrats on the 6#.

I was using a 1/4 oz shakey head and an 8 " worm. I think my problem was I had either 12 or 14 lb on my medium action. I'm more used to fishing the river so I tend to be in the trees often.

I had another rod with 15 spider wire and. 10 lb flouro leader tied on that I got a keeper on but it was a 5/8 jig. Also I could feel the bottom til about 10-12 feet the. After that pretty much nothing.

What's a good braid ? I use spiderwire but haven't tried much else. I like the 15 lb stuff that has like a 4 lb diameter.

I use Sufix & PowerPro (4-20 or 4-15)with a 2-4 foot leader of 6-10 lb Floro (depending on the depth & weight/size of my lure)..

The best knot for joining the braid and Floro ( that I have tried ) is.....
