Coosa Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 From my experience those river smallies love some wtd lures when it gets hot like this. The hotter the better I think.
Mitch f Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I agree I am probably over thinking , normally by this time of the year I would have been out there 10-20 times , but weather has certainly not allowed that. I will be fishing with the future father in law, his twin brother, his wife, his son, and the fiancé . 4 others will just be floating. So needless to say they will be getting hit hard , and things will get a little competitive . So I'm trying to be as prepared as possible and gain a slight advantage . Thanks for all the input though If you want the advantage, be very accurate with your cast around logs in in current in about 3-4 FOW. Also, pass up the downed trees and come back upstream and throw between the first wood and the bank.....that spot hardly ever gets fished jtram 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

joeD Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 You're floating with 10 people. Drop the competitiveness and expectations, you'll be happier. Just bring one rod and a bag of white flukes and 4/0 hooks. Bring alcohol and cigars and lots of ice and sunscreen. Then fish the day after.

I tend to get stressed over these things sometimes . There's so much preparation on these floats . I get wrapped up. In making sure we are prepared for everything. I let it overflow into every category.
Mitch f Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 what do you mean by first wood?Meaning, fish the slot between the bank and the tree trunk, not the outside of the trunk that gets hit hit by every guy fishing out of the canoe Norm M 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Norm M Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 amen , Mitch what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends
MOPanfisher Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Cigars, some cold water, and white flukes on a medium action spinning rod. Low stress, almost guaranteed to catch a few, and feel the rest of the world fade away. If hot I like to sit in a riffle as deep as I can without being washed away and relax (have been know to consume an adult beverage while doing this). If your back starts to hurt from being in a canoe, a gravel bar with sun warmed gravel is nature's combo recliner and heating pad, or just a short nap in the shade to the sound of the river running by. Days like that it can be hard to understand the rest of the world caught up in politics, money, and discontent. GloryDaze 1
