Ketchup Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I lost my fishing shades in the lake recently. I have never payed more than $50.00 for a pair of polarized sun glasses, but looking to get a good pair now. Ive been looking at the Costa 580. My question is, what color of lens to get? I fish alot, so the sun/cloud scenario plays a role. If you only had one color lens, what would it be? TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Pat Magee Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I have the 580 glass in green and they work great until the sun starts to go down or you're in some darker shadows. In the sunlight I swear you can see far deeper in the water then you could with any other lens. I don't have any experience with any other colors. One thing I had an issue with is weight. The glass lenses are going to weigh a little more then a plastic lens and it can put pressure on the bridge of your nose making sunglasses hard to wear for long periods of time. When mine break again I am going to try the 580 plastic lens.
Smalls21 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 i have a pair of Oakley Half Jacket 2.0 with amber lenses, they are lightweight and comfortable
5bites Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 We recently had a similar discussion sorta. I'm not sure if you ran acrossed it. I like amber a lot especially for site fishing. I did buy some blue mirrors this year for brighter days because I fight headaches pretty bad so any relief is good. One gentleman suggested I try green mirror. Now I don't know if it would be the best all around but he liked them on bright days. So in my experience so far the ambers are good all around lenses but can stand to cut more light on bright summer days. Again my eyes are sensitive to that and I cannot stand to be outside without glasses at all. The blue mirrors are great but I haven't used them site fishing yet so to say they are good all around lenses is still up in the air. You can't go wrong with ambers though especially if you are really sensitive to light. I hope this helps. Btw if we bump into each other again you're more than welcome to try mine out.
Kayser Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Amber. Fantastic contrast in low light, but dark enough to kill afternoon glare and save your eyes. I'm wearing some Maxx Cobra HD I picked up for $20 at the friendly local fly shop in STL. Took them to Florida, worked great for snook/redfish/tarpon. Used them in MO, work great for trout, smallmouth, panfish. Lost the first pair, on pair #2 now. Will definitely buy again. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Terrierman Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 My current favorite pair of good sunglasses are Amber Ray Ban's - http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/sunglasses/RB4214%20unisex%201-rb4214-black/8053672298895 Like them a lot. Lenses are polarized scratch resistant plastic - super light and so far so good on no scratches. These are really light and comfortable, especially if you have a big noggin like mine.
cheesemaster Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I lost a pair of Amber glasses and replaced them with Blue Mirrors, I should not have done that. I am ready to sit on them so I have a reason to buy another pair of Amber glasses.
Ketchup Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Thanks guys. Looks like amber it is. Ive read a few reviews where others say the glass lens can be uncomfortable after a few hours. Is that the case? If so im not seeing Costas in a plastic lens. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
