Ranger520vx Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 We are planning our annual trip for mid October. I was just wondering with Bull Shoals being so high now is there a chance that there will be any wadable water by then.
hoglaw Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Doubtful in my opinion. You can always find SOMEWHERE to wade (current break, an island, someone's back yard), but it may not be a good spot. Watch the generation and maybe the Norfork will give you a window. 6+ units of water puts multiple feet of water over areas that would normally be dry gravel. There should still be good fishing to be had, but it will be by boat.
Ranger520vx Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 Thanks for the input. We have been doing this trip for several years, and have always had low flows. May talk to our group and see about doing a march trip instead.
sfiser Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 there was an article or video posted by the corps on thier facebook page that said if they ran all 3 white river lakes (Beaver, Table Rock, Bull Shoals) dames at full blast it would be around Halloween before they were all back to thier normal levels. Bull will be the last of the 3 to reach normal levels. Bull shoals isnt running "full blast" much and the flows are actually easing back down to around 5 units for parts of the day so it will likely be sometime in November before we see reliable wading windows. Norfork isnt that high so there is an option there for wadeable water but with the White being high, the amount of wader fisherman will increase dramatically at norfork. If you are comfortable in a boat/fly fishing from a boat the fishing is/will still be outstanding.
Ranger520vx Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 I like fishing Norfork but its to crowded on the weekends. Got 8 guys coming down wasn't really wanting to rent 4 boats for 4 days. Think my bass boat would be a little over kill lol
Ham Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I've seen guys running big glass bass boats in the White, but that's a gamble I'll never take. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
BFTMASTER Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Rent some of the New Wide Shawnees over at the State Park Trout Dock. Some thing like $130 full day. They have new yamaha's with electric start. Everything else for rent on the white is a sharp drop in quality. Only problem is waiting for the office to open (7:30?) and having the boat back (5:00?)
Ranger520vx Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 Yea I would never put my boat on there if we stay with our current date might look into renting some boats. I think I could borrow a river boat or two from my brother in law over at Yellville. Appreciate all the input.
