nomolites Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Didn't get on the water until 930 and fished until 2 without much success. Fished for a couple hours this evening and had about the same result. Tried pulling cranks from 15' - 35' deep around shad and channel breaks only managed one 12" crappie and a couple of 2# channel cat and donated a couple of flicker shads as my ante. Tried switching to bottom bouncing crawlers in the same range but could only manage more channel cat and a drum. Thermocline was either not visible or set up at 46' in the deeper basins and the only good returns that looked like game fish pwere at depth charge depths. The lake was WAY too rough today to try going that deep....I guess after months of current this week the fish are in a bit of a funk with slack water. Going to give it a shot again early tomorrow but what I saw today was not encouraging. Mike
conorsixtakc Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This has always been the toughest time of year for me, especially being located at 7mm... I don't even try! Ready for next month though!
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Yeah this is the time of year that I can catch lots of shorts everywhere, but keepers are few and far between. I never know whether I should be fishing deep or shallow. It seems that my best success comes from just running down the bank (any bank) with a 1/2oz. Redeye shad until my arm gives out. Anyone that can put together a solid keeper catching pattern now is a STUD! conorsixtakc 1

The local boys sure know how to catchem, would take me a week to catch 45 lbs. conorsixtakc and MOsmallies 2
MOsmallies Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I couldn't figure em out this past weekend either... And you are correct WeekendWarrior, LOZ has some impressive tournament anglers who call the lake home!
Old plug Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I think the bass are changing seasonal gears . we got 4 jkeepers the other evening in a hour or so from 15 to close to 17 inches. I tend to switch gears this time of year to jigging a spoon with or without attached shad chunks. Spend most of my time in the white bass gathering places but am not targeting White bass as much as whatever I find down there. Have caught a lot of big catfish hanging below whites this time of year. If I run into a hybrid that's fine too, but I do not intentionally chase them down. Just out there haveing fun and winding down the season.
Members tjwd83 Posted August 24, 2015 Members Posted August 24, 2015 I have been out a couple times targeting crappie trolling #4 flicker shad and #7 slicker shad on leadcore line in 25 -30ft of water with some success along the front of docks. I have only been letting out 60 to 65 ft of line or two colors of lead core which should keep those crankbaits between 18 to 22 feet down at 1.7 mph to 1.4 mph. Not sure if this helps but has been working for me. Numbers are nothing to brag about but quality fish for sure most have been 12" to 14".I have not had the time to target any walleye like I want going to try it this fall when the lake calms down.
Old plug Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Most fish we have catch this falls small and large seem to have full bellies. It makes me think they are selective feeding and stuffing themselves with on shad. I believe in periods when that happens you will see poor artificial fishing for some species like bass.
