merc1997 Bo Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 linda and i got a for a bit friday evening and fished the kings river arm. was fairly slow, but did manage 4 keepers, all lmg, and they were just nice chunks. attached will be a couple of pics from that trip. caught just about everything on a 1/2 jig. saturday night fished a little derby out of cow creek. started at 7 pm, and we started whacking them right of the gate on the 1 oz. SpinJig. ended up with a dozen or so keepers, and they were all just nice keeps. funny thing is that most were k's. only three keeper smallmouth and no lmg. finished 2nd with 11.57 and 1st place had 11.77, and that .2 difference was the exact difference in out largest bass's weight. most people had already loaded up and went home by weigh-in time, and the only two limits brought in were us and the winners. the winners said they only caught 7 keepers. the bite was really over at 9:30. so, it is easy to see why many did not have anything because if you were not putting them in the boat right off, you missed out. we actually looked at three spots with electronics before finding them on the 4th. this time of the year, your electronics are a great aid in fishing the right area, but i see so many boats just pull in and go to fishing. why throw a line in the water if there is nothing there?? best depth was 18 to 24 feet. they moved out a hair. Ealy Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Nice work. I'm curious about the Spin Jig. Are you talking about an underspin?
merc1997 Bo Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 Nice work. I'm curious about the Spin Jig. Are you talking about an underspin? no, it is not an underspin. here is pic. i have been using a western craw skirt and a 3 6 colorado blade. bo
Longball22 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Bo, I noticed on your site the SpinJig only comes in 3/8oz. and 1/2oz. I haven't had one in my hand before, but it looks like you can slide the collar up and put the spinner on another jig. Is that correct? Just have to order the Black and Blue Widow SpinJig and some of the 1 oz. Bomber jigs and swap them out? If you can't tell, you'll be getting an order soon.
Members BearFisher10 Posted August 24, 2015 Members Posted August 24, 2015 Sounds like you fared better than I did on Saturday. I fished Saturday with poor results keeper wise. My brush pile bite I talked about last week was not working...and I hit quite a few of them. I think with it being stormy and overcast it spread them out and they weren't concentrated in and around the brush because I could see some as I was scanning suspended over the channel but couldn't get them to react. Ended up going shallow and caught one keeper with 17 shorts with a lot of those being in the 14 inch range. Frustrating to say the least. Probably could have caught them better shallow on spinnerbaits but for some dumb reason I left the box at home after a recent boat clean out. Champ188 1

And herein lies a critical lesson, folks ... never ever EVER splash your boat without spinnerbaits on board. Specifically, War Eagle spinnerbaits. Codywskeeter1521 1
Members mohogtrapper Posted August 24, 2015 Members Posted August 24, 2015 How are you fishing the spin jig? Looks a lot like a spinnerbait to me. Thanks,

Thanks, you can fish it just like any other spinner bait, but the best method for these deeper bass is to let it go to the bottom, start reeling for 4 to 7 cranks, then stop and let it pendulum back to the bottom and repeat. the bites are coming as it is coasting. bo Champ188 1
