Excellent morning Billets.  We had two groups of green wings come in this morning.  Had a guy call the shot in the first group way too early.  Second group actually sat down in the Dekes before we knew they were there. Ended up with two and should have had more!

After yesterday just had to try again. Not near as much shooting as opening day that we could hear in the distance. Not as many bids flying either but fun again to be out in the crisp cool air at daylight. We quit with nine. Four woodies and five green wings. No excuses for the other three birds. We just missed!

Great start.  I am ready for season to get underway here in Arkansas.  Haven't seen many around yet, but will put some major miles in this weekend looking for some ducks.

For all you young guns out there.  Please note Mrs BilletHead in the pics here in hunting and in the great fishing adventures out west. When you are dating that fine young thing, just remember these pics.

Just saying... All praise Mr. BilletHead.

Yes just like Mic says, choose your future bride wisely! Actually I had no idea this partnership would turn out this way but sure glad it did :) . This was the Mrs. day off and I asked her last night what she would like to do today. Either Bow hunt morning and evening or try for ducks in the morning and deer in the evening. Her quick reply was Ducks! So we went and nada, nothing, zilch did not even fire a shot but again another sunrise together. So it was deer hunting this evening, story on that in archery.

Thanks for the Shout out Mic,

Been awhile since I have reported from the BilletHead land. Yes we have been getting some ducks and geese on our own and as guest with other friends. As far as going with others I went on my first flooded pecan timber hunt and the next day Mrs. BilletHead got to go too. Fun it was with our friend the Cajun. Mallards in your face fun. Also got to hunt with a fellow  OA member Curtisce. We got all green heads on one trip and then a couple of geese on another. All trips aren't successful and we have been pretty beat up on some. I tell the Mrs. it isn't what what you get that matters it is the process involved. We have got to add more sunrises together as a couple together. THIS is what matters to me and the one I love :) .

Ok not to today's hunt. If I have time I like to scout a little each day. Since I am lucky to hunt close to home it is easy.  One place I had been watching closely intrigued me. There is a rather large irrigation lake. In the field where the turret and leg is there aar terraces. On some of the terraces are catch basins. Two side by side catch basins the drains are partially plugged thus they are holding water. One of these is approx sixty yards long and forty yards across. I peeked over it yesterday to see it covered with mallards and geese. They seen me too and buggered out. A plan was made for this morning. Sooooo wet. It is a disked corn field sewed in winter wheat. All of this rain it is a lob lolly. No way I could even close to it with my little trailer. Plan "B". I was gifted a small sled from a trapper friend who is no longer using it. Liked it so much I got another one about the same size. With space limited all we took was a half dozen goose floaters and a dozen mallards plus two layout blinds. We lashed the sleds side by side and loaded up for the trip to the spot. We were able to drive along the field edge to a waterway and then up it to within forty yards of the waterhole. Then the process of wading soft ground to the spot. Glad the mule was with me :)  She is a trooper. Decoys out and settled in we began to wait. So funny the birds ignored the thirty acre lake to hit the puddle we were at. We shot three drake mallards and two hens. No excuse for not getting the rest of our ducks. Poor shots at times. Got our six geese too and while waiting for more possible ducks more geese a lot more geese came in. One in particular. A loaner who fell in love with the goose floaters. We will call him waldo. We shot some pictures of waldo. Well the Mrs. did very carefully. We even had twenty five dump in at once. They finally spooked and waldo stayed.

So where is waldo in the six floaters?

Oh there he is! Second one from the left,

Then the mornings take,

The hide which was not too good. No where to hide in the mud and short wheat.

The spread missing waldo. We had to actually sit up and then stand up to get him to leave his plastic pals,

Transportation was the bomb! Mule working in the background,

More cheap help picture. Yes she knows I referred to her as the mule. As long as I show the girl a good time she says it doesn't matter!
