fishinwrench Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Looks good but IMO the woolly style hackle needs to go, or trim it real short. Helgie flys that cut the water better or are less dense seem to be the ticket. The water pushes on that hackle too much and alot of the drift is wasted while the fly gets to the bottom. Smallies don't care about "drag" so tie them like a rock (lead barbell eyes) so they get to the bottom fast.....then hold them up just enough to slip/swing downstream. A 3" long heavily weighted rabbit strip Leech catches them really good in the riffles or just below. Whether or not it is being mistaken for a hellgie I have no idea, and don't care.
