Friends staying in the Gravois area are reporting a slow bite so far this week.  Just wondering if any other part of the lake is seeing any numbers.  Thanks!

Fished around PB 2 Saturday. Two in the boat we only brought home 5 whites and 6 crappie. Going again tomorrow, may be better. Seems like water temp is a little high but I don't know what it usually this time of year.

I actually just bought a condo in the upper Big Niangua Arm near Camdenton. I am not new to bass fishing or the Lake itself, but have never really targeted anything but bass at LoZ. I have a bass boat and wanted to do some fishing from the new place this weekend, but wanted to try something new. Anyone mind giving the basic tactics for targeting white bass/hybrids at this time of year?

Matt,  I strictly flyfish for them so I look for them out on the big shallow mud flats.   There are certain things on the flats that congregate them but I don't wanna give that up freely online :)    You'll figure it out if you put in a little time chasing them.     Alot of guys target the mainlake points and stuff, and chase the surface blitzes, but I think I catch more and bigger ones out on the big flats.

@MattS, I've never fished for them in the Niangua, however, I tend to be one of those main lake point guys wrench mentions.  Using spinning tackle and 6lb test line in the dam area, I usually throw a white 1/4 oz rooster tail all day long and have decent success from this time of year until December.  I'll mix in some 3" paddle tail swimbaits and the occasional stick bait catches as well.  I seem to have better luck when the weather is nasty, cold and windy.

Matt, we're in the same area and from what we see, fishers having success with the whites are trolling the area between the bridge and Ha Ha Tonka or fishing live shad at the Tonka Cove inlet. Casting points or flats has been working but for us the action has been slow with just a couple of fish per hour. This past weekend the cat fishing was so good we concentrated on them.

A great tactic is bounce a spoon or blade bait off the bottom in the evening on the pea gravel flats.  Ideal is a flat on an inside turn with current(i.e., main lake) and deep water bordering at least one side.  Depth can vary from 10-30 ft deep.

There are some decent hybrids being caught using this approach as well as trolling cranks in the same areas.
