MOPanfisher Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 After 6 months away from fishing and somewhat restricter in things I was allowed to do, I am finally back in the boat. Spent a full day on LOZ trying to find crappie bigger than 8 inches I was a little sore and stiff. But a quick half day trip the next night has about crippled me. Lowe back, knees, feet, even my rod holding had was hurting. Surely carrying some extra weight found during the down time didnt help. Maybe have to fish more regularly to rebuild those weakened muscles. Warm coca cola and slim Jim diet while fishing? Ham 1
Ham Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 cajunangler and I did a 5 day trip this spring. We fished from daylight to dark and cooked all out own meals, etc. Basically got about 6 hours of sleep a night. I was beat down after that trip. Lol. MOPanfisher Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 LOL, I have done that in the past, first couple days are daylight to dark fishing. Then the day start later and end earlier, usually by the end is a "you fellers want to go fishing today or what". Toss in a few cold beers, checkers or pitch games, cigars and just enjoying life, the night can get pretty short.
Old plug Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Things like age and arthritis are going to slow you down in spite of anything you can do. Only thing that lets fish 2-4 hrs in the afternoons or evenings is a strong shoulder brace.
Fish24/7 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 if i knew 25 years ago what i know now, I would have sat down in the boat more while fishing all these years, and watched the junk food. decades of being heavy, and standing while fishing contributed my trouble. My knees, lower back, hip. I'm not even "over the hill" yet.... I'm a lefty .so it was natural to stand on my left leg, while running the troller off and on with the right foot. Sometimes 12 or more hours a day for several days in a row. Never once considering the damage I could be doing to my body . All those rough boat rides, and chocolate chip cookies over the last few decades have done have not helped. Now there's nerve damage in my left hip area and lower back, and the cartilage is about all gone in my knees.Especially the left one.The day I fell down in the boat when my left knee buckled from a boat wake i did not see coming told me something was not right. After a few xrays and scans it was crystal clear what else was causing the prob. Now i eat less, and fish from a seated position for the last few years but the pain is still there. I can do a full day of fishing from a seat ok, . If i try to stand and/or run the trolling motor, within 15 minutes my nerve pain bothers me until i sit back down. I only experience these problems if i try to stand and fish in that position out of a boat. ohteriwse I'm pain free.
Old plug Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Fish 24-7 A whole bunch of these youngeters will be joining us. I bet some already have had trouble with tennis elbowing that and that kind of kink you get in e shoulder after casting. I am a lefty with both knees replaced and the left knee replacement failing. I use the shoulder brace on the left shoulder. It cannot be repaired dues to a collar bone reset from a biking accident when I was in my 30's.The more weight you take off the better you will function. I am able to wear those nylon supports you can find in Wallmart on the failed knee and get along pretty good. Shoulder brace is a God send for me.
Fish24/7 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 tennis elbow, that's why i don't jig spoons as much as i used too. Ham 1
Old plug Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Fish 24-7 I want to add something that I have found relieve a lot of pressure on me. I. Have 2 light and medium action 7 ft spinning rods filled with 10lb test braid, I can fish a lot of pitching and flipping baits on a seat from my casting deck. I have also used them. Shoot docks for crappie as well as plastic baits like sinko. The braid is tiny as thread. Yet strong enough to handle even big fish. Fish24/7 1
MOPanfisher Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 I am only 49 and have had two bouts with tennis elbow and some arthritis symptoms from my treatment, still have lots of sciatica in left hip though, never put it together though with hours of standing on left leg while running trolley though. Makes sense. That combined with a youth thought process of it I could get hold of something I could carry it. I see a lot of myself in my son enjoying his youthful strength.
