Ham Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 And then there are the lithium batteries. Lighter and with a different (better?) discharge curve. They maintian full power until >90 % discharged. They require special charging systems. They cost more than a grandchild, but outlast a grandchild's innocence (7-10 years ?). I'm pretty convinced that the lithium batteries or the place we will all end up, I'd just like to stay on the sidelines until the price comes down and they work a few more of the bugs out. Sad to say, but I'm only in the Bass Cat 15 or so days a year. Doing the math if I bought three batteries at today's prices and they lasted me 7 years, I'd still be spending 30 dolars a trip on the cost of the batteries. I can not justify that. I have seen the results of water level changes and a band of dead Zebra mussels, but not to that extent before. Wow! Are you breaking off more cranks and rigs? The cranks might at least float up where you can recover them. The mid to lower lake is not as thickly infested, but I am still having break offs from them. I havent broke any off but im definitely not letting them get down that deep 11 hours ago, nxs said: Is the Beaver Creek Ramp still under water? The Ramp is usable the courtesy dock is completely under water though
nxs Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Thanks the dock is important we're getting to old to climb over the side of the lund anymore. Another thought on the battery's. I also installed a new onboard charger this summer only puts out 6 amps per battery smaller than a lot of the boat chargers. Batterys don't like heat and I also make sure the doors to the battery compartments are always open when charging. Every one have a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year Gary Smith

Tried my normal winter trolling pattern around Beaver Launch ramp with no luck at all. I Marked all kinds of stuff but it was very weird and im not sure it was fish or shad or what, seems like the graphs are playing tricks up there. Trolled some cranks for an hour or so and didnt have a bite. Took off down towards K dock and the fog got very thick around the first bend so i went to an idle. After getting to K dock i threw some flicker shads out behind the boat about 200' and started catching some decent Spots, nothing real big. Trolled another hour or so and picked up a couple more Spots and a couple 11" crappie. Trolling batteries died and I was done. Not sure whats going on. My batteries test "good" at oriellys but were dead. I thought it was my on board charger last week when this happened so i charged them on a normal charger and the same thing happened. So oriellys said to charge them again and then bring them in so they can test it under load. Only a year old so hopefully somthing good will come out of it Good luck out there Probably already know all of this but figured I'd say something. I had the same problems with my batteries. Charge for 2 days, show full charge, but would die in about 2 hours fishing. Then I figured out I had them wired wrong. If you're running 2 batteries, the positive lines needs to be on the positive post on battery #1, and the negative lines need to be on the negative post of battery #2 w/ a line connecting both batteries together. That way it pulls from both batteries at the same time. If you have all lines connected to positive and negative of 1 battery then a line connecting both batteries you are just pulling from battery #1 until it's dead then pulls from battery #2 but not very good. Also need to recharge this way. Hook positive cable up to positive post on battery #1 and negative cable up to negative post on battery #2. Charges both batteries at same time. Again probably already know all of this but when I figured out this was my problem (was hooked up this way when I bought the boat) and changed it I can fish all day and my batteries never go dead. Hope this helps.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Well took the batteries back to Orielly so they could load test them and of course they still tested good. I told them i would rather throw them in the dumpster than waste another day going back to the lake. The guy understood and gave me a couple new ones, Im pretty happy with how they handles the deal. The batteries were even one month out of warranty and they still threw me a bone... Gotta give some props to Orielly for some good customer service Curtlow, I appreciate the thoughts and I wish it would have been somthing that simple but these batteries worked so good after i got them last year. So i was pretty confident in my wiring, i did some internet searching on how to make them work. Kinda is confusing if your not a electric gooroo
