mic Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 So being a transplant, I use Al's CFS guidance for going down stream. So, now that I have a kayak (and I like to get out and fish riffles)... below what CFS level can one reasonably paddle upstream, pull through riffles, and then float back down?
fishinwrench Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 On the rivers I paddle most, anything above 6-700 becomes too much work to be fun.

Al Agnew Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 The lower the better. Basically on smaller streams, once the flow goes over 200 cfs, it's not as easy to get out and drag the faster riffles and the current is strong enough that paddling up the riffles is difficult. I wouldn't really want to do it at more than 100 cfs on the streams you mentioned.
