joeD Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Weatherpeople, no, sorry, meteorologists, no, my mistake, storm experts DR (so and so, insert any name), seem to be becoming "personalities," like what is happening, or has happened with hot, new, forward thinking chefs. It is no longer about letting us know what the weather will be like today. No, that would diminish their importance. Now, their predictions for any weather event, rain, snow, hot, stormy, dry, whatever, in any given area, now, affects MILLIONS of people. SO THEY ARE ON TOP OF THINGS. A cold front no longer passes through an area with the possibility of rain. No sirree. This rain covers a, for example, a large portion of the upper Ohio Valley, and could affect MILLIONS of people. So, stayed tuned. Because these forecasters have rolled up their sleeves and, for our benefit, have started to name individual storm systems. The lives of MILLIONS of Americans are at stake. Weather is no joke people. Meanwhile, back at the ranch in St. Louis, with local weather persons in a lather about epic rain, starting this afternoon, nothing happened. As usual, the dome of high pressure over St Louis broke up the first "assault." I'm sure some odd county got drenched with a quarter inch. But. There's always tomorrow. Remain vigilant. jpb2187 1

I asked him if it was gonna rain today. He looked me in the eye and told me no, clear skies for the next couple of days. Not two hours later, the clouds began to get very dark, the wind quickly picked up, and a hard rain came down. I will never forget that. It is now something to laugh about, but then, I was really suspicious of his ability. jpb2187 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Weather drives ratings for the local newscasts, so they hype up the weather as much as they can to get people to tune in. More Hype = More Viewers = More money in KMOV, KSDK, etc pockets.
jpb2187 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I just use http://www.weather.gov/ - all of the info I need, pretty reliable, no fluff.
