Members Capt Scotty Posted March 11, 2016 Members Posted March 11, 2016 Its been a while since I posted but the fishing here on the Gulf Coast in Pensacola, Florida has been fantastic. Redfish, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and White Trouts are the hot bite during the winter and spring time. It only gets better as we get into the spring time with the water temperatures warming up, the fish are feeding like crazy. The Redfish have been feeding on the bait fish with the birds. You find the birds feeding you find the Bull Redfish. I have been throwing a white 1 to 2 oz buck tail jig head at the schools of birds and hooking up with some great action. The Redfish are in the deeper channels and canals feeding on mullets and other bait fish. A live shrimp on light tackle has been a great choice to hook up on these guys or a Mirror Lure has been very productive too. The Sheepshead, Black Drums, and White Trouts are located around structured areas, oyster beds, and local bridges. Bait of choice is Live Shrimp on a Carolina rig weight depends on the current from 1 to 2 oz egg sinker is working great. Are you ready to come down and get in on the action give me a shout I would love to take you and your family out on a fishing trip to make some memories that last a lifetime. Check me out on Fishtime.net Or just google fish time fishing charters and see what I can offer you. Here is some great pictures and videos for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcaEadD7Sz8
shrapnel Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Spent the month of January down there, fishing was fantastic. Good enough I'm considering a permanent move, fishing in the Midwest simply does not even compare not for size, species, numbers and definitely not for table fare! Trigger is my new favorite fish to eat with spotted trout a close second. I posted some pics on PFF of a 28"+ speck I caught in Jan and I was hooked. Justin Spencer 1
Deadstream Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Yawn.... Drop and reel is not what I want. Hope you enjoy the new home.
JestersHK Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Nice Sheep and Reds! Looks like its starting to heat up down there fishing wise.

You obviously haven't spent much time fishing for redfish or spotted trout. Both of them are very similar to bass fishing, with potential for a much better reward. This girl hit a rogue in January. Topwaters, Jerkbaits, Spinnerbaits, Swimbaits. I think I'm headed down with the family to Marco Island in June, can't wait to chase some reds and snook. JestersHK 1

Love catching big doormat flounder on jigs as well. Around here we have Bass, Crappie, Trout and I even heard some people fish for Catfish on purpose and that's 99% of the fishing. On the gulf on any given day of the year you have at least 10 species you can decide to target...and expect to do well. (Heck, there might be 10 species of just snapper!) Oh, and you can still catch all the freshwater species there as well and they too tend to run a bit larger than here.
Deadstream Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Each his own. I've been fishing for over 50 years all over the world. China, Russia, Ireland etc. I have found that I don't care for fishing on the Gulf or the West coast much. Enjoy!
