Members Brennan Posted March 18, 2016 Members Posted March 18, 2016 Came down for a short spring break trip with my wife and 7 year old son. We fished the morning each day and caught plenty of small bass to keep it interesting. We fished a couple of miles either side of Shell Knob bridge, targeting longer creeks/pockets with the Rock Crawler. Water temps on Monday were as high as 62, but were 53-56 later in the week. We had the most success toward the back 1/3 of the coves as the 45 degree banks started to flatten out. Most fish came in 5/10 feet of water. Any little breeze helped. Tried the Ned, but my son really needs to be cranking the handle to be able to stick with it. I guess patience comes later in life. I did rig him up with a wobble head with a GP speed craw (all doctored up with orange claws for fun) and they really ate that pretty well cranked along the bottom. Probably caught a dozen or so (mixed bag) with three keeps each day. I have a feeling it's about to get really good. Good luck. tho1mas, Muddy Water, Quillback and 1 other 4
m&m Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Brennan, thank you for the report. Sounds like a fun time with the family. Mike
edyer Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Nice report. Reminds me of when I took my son when he was that age. Treasure those times. He has a 4.5 year old son now and he is already fishing. Looking forward to getting down there and catching some of those Table Rock bass myself.
merc1997 Bo Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 nothing like starting the early. great job. bo
Quillback Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Good stuff - I fished that wobble head/Speed Craw today for a bit and did not get a bite on it - should've dyed the claws orange!
Members Brennan Posted March 18, 2016 Author Members Posted March 18, 2016 Quill, my son was so convinced the orange made all the difference. So much so, we had it all over our fingers, hat, shoes and a little on the carpet. Hard to get too upset with a smile like that on my sons face. We're heading out today to get an orange dye PEN for his tackle box. Good luck.
