I take my wife to my favorite fishing hole, and she tried to brake my pole with this 18" bass. A great way to spend a Sunday after church !

It was awfully nice of you to let her catch the big bass. I am sure you gained some points for sharing.

Nice Spring River fish.  Believe it or not a buddy of mine from high school owns bottom ground around in Mt. Vernon on Spring River and his older brother caught two big (trophy mount) rainbow trout out of the river.  That happened like 15 or so years ago.

I have caught some dandies in places many people fish. I love creek and river fishing ! I think I always will, any stress I may have just goes away. I know most fish are not whoppers, but every once in a while you get a good one.

I did get brownie points for the post, but I just love seeing her face when she catches a fish. She is good at working those bass it took 4 casts to get this fish angry enough to finally hang on.

Interesting about the trout, I always wonder what was in our Mo. waters before we started messing with stuff.

Thanks for the comments.

In the 1880's, trout were stocked along the SLSF Railway. This would have been Verona for Spring River. There was also a Trout Farm along the river south of Verona.

Williams was at one time reported to have trout also. I have not caught one in there.

I was curious if you happen to keep that bass? It sure was a keeper like your wife said. Congrats to her!

No we did not keep any bass. I did not think you could keep them until May 23 from the river or streams ? I used to use Memorial day as my marker for keeping bass for the river and streams, I think squirrel season opens around that too.

Floating, fishing for bass, and squirrel hunting all at the same time ! Sounds like a good weekend to me.

Any more though I have to admit, these little areas on Spring river I don't keep anything. I want them to be there for the next time.

I would like to say this...I have no problem eating bass, that is why God put them there. They are really good from the creek !

I am old enough to remember small spring fed fish farms, very interesting info. I think most are probably gone. There used to be one near Ritchey Mo Trout must have been very popular. I think it would have taken a lot of effort to maintain a population of trout.
