nomolites Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 They also have an erratic motion on the drop with the head inserted and are much better when vertical jigging. Mike Flatbottom Boy 1
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I generally detest Spincasting reels, but for dock shooting you can't beat these little pieces of crap
Flatbottom Boy Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 So are you holding and releasing the actual trigger, or just stopping the line with your finger over the hole? I bet that little settup would work good.
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Doing it all with the trigger. If you want to shoot it an extra long distance spool it up with 4#, but for the average LO docks 6# does fine. The slow retrieve rate is perfect for crappie but when one runs toward you you sometimes have to reel like crazy to catch up. It's nice to not have to fumble with a bail when the wind is trying to blow you out of position, and getting the perfect amount of line out before loading/shooting is a breeze. I think I paid 12.00 ea. for them and they have lasted almost 4 years so far. I can hit a 4" gap consistently with it.

Wrench, is that a zebco or ???? have you tried any braid or nano, likely the wind catch it though...??? “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
WHARFRAT Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Underspins do a great job. I learned shooting with a small pflueger underspin. Since then I use spinning reels. The good thing with those underspins is that you don't get too many loops in your reels. @lozcrappie
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Yeah Zebco. I use P-Line CX Premium just because that is what I use on everything else. Different line might be better but I haven't had any problems at all. You'd think that line twist would be a pain, but I guess since you're basically dealing with a short amount of line it just doesn't get too bad.
WHARFRAT Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 It was tough on me today. Didn't talk to many folks today but the one I talked to were doin about the same. Fished from Bridal Cave to the Little Niangua. Smallest was 10 1/3 and the biggest about 12. Kalens Triple Threat in Wally World color. Don't know why the white looks so short, he was probably 14. Size wise you did a heck of a lot better than me on Saturday. I fished from Bridal Cave and South of there. I think I only had 3 fish that measured over 10". Caught a fair share, but they were all small. Seemed to find them on top of brush, very few under docks. They were thumping pretty hard, but weren't too big. Sunday, wasn't going to go, but figured I had at least an hour and a half before church, so I trekked up toward Bridal Cave again and started out shooting docks. And of course, since I couldn't stay out too long, the 11-13"ers were back feeding aggressively. Not that I caught a whole lot, but at least a half dozen that size and quite a few legal keepers, and very few dinks, in a very short time. Go Figure! Didn't go back out after church, too wet out there. stuartsx5 1 @lozcrappie
