merc1997 Bo Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 my buddy dale and i put the boat in at 7:30 pm and had it back on the trailer at 12:20 am. it was one of those night that you would think fishing would have been easy. wind blowing, water temps up, and a warmer night, but bites were very hard to come by and took quite a while to figure out how and where to acquire one. the first bass did not come along until 10. final results though were pretty good. 8 keepers total, with 7 of them in the 3 to 4 range. bite depth was the same as it has been, out off the bank deeper. all were caught on the 1/4 hair jig with spring lizard pup. we did not get a bite out in the wind. everything was caught out of the wind. i think many times, when bass are pretty inactive, wind is not your friend. i believe inactive bass seek a place out of the wind where they are not fighting current. most often windy sloppy banks at night mean you are going to catch 'em, but there are just those times that you need to go seek shelter. so, keep trying different types of areas within the area you are fishing. there will be a bite of some kind within the area. fish the bluff side, fish the flat side, try points, bluff pockets, and coves on the flat side. i know that many make the mistake of fishing the same type of terrain spot after spot and then say, there was not a bite. remember the saying insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect different results. quillback is a great example of trying a whole host of different terrains within the are he is fishing. if one reads his posts, he often talks about fishing bluffs, then trying coves, and perhaps a flat. sure one area of the lake can certainly have a better bite than another area, and table rock is a prime example of that. but, most often there are plenty of bass a mile either direction from where you put in at. taking time to figure out a bite within that area is a great learning tool. it helps to learn to process where to go find bass, and also what techniques or presentations will work under certain conditions. it also helps to learn where bass move to with weather changes. time on the water is a great teacher, but pay attention and remember from each trip. tournament fisherman are not often the best examples of learning to catch and find bass. there are those few that catch them anytime any place, and those are the ones to pay attention to. they often fish many different types of thing within an area until they figure out the bite, and then they will expand looking to other similar areas. experimentation is a great learning tool. bo Bassmod, dtrs5kprs, abkeenan and 5 others 8
m&m Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Bo, thank you for the information and pictures. Another great report with a reminder for all of us that the fish are where they are and sometimes not where we think they should be. I agree that Quill and others provide valuable information about seeking different types of locations when trying to locate fish. Sounds like you and Dale adapted quite well. Mike cheesemaster 1

edyer Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I was out last night in Aunt's Creek from 9 to Midnight. My buddy in the front of the boat was catching fish immediately with a short arm spinner bait with a black/red skirt and a white little skinny dipper trailer, and a hammered Copper blade.. I was fishing a Strike King night time single bladed spinner bait in the Black/Blue color. My buddy caught around 15, with only 3 being keepers. I caught three, after I switched to a PBJ Mini Mop Jig with a Net Bait Kentucky Special Paca Chunk trailer. Champ188, Quillback, merc1997 Bo and 1 other 4
