Members momule Posted October 3, 2016 Members Posted October 3, 2016 Anyone who makes across the board statements like the one that "fishing wrench" made: " Everybody's 4-strokes are crap (Yamaha included)." is full of it themselves. If 4 strokes are crap why do you see so many marinas using them on rental boats, so many guides using them, and so many fishing related fishing shows where there are Yamahas on every boat that you see. Perhaps Mr Wrench (remember that it was he who gave himself that name) has had bad luck fixing the ones that he's worked on, maybe he believes in buying only American (and is there really anything that is truely made in America anymore?), or maybe he doesn't see many Yamahas because there is never any that need work. Regardless, I would never trust the word of someone who makes blanket statements about products like he did and that is why I pay no attention to what he posts - ever. skeeter 1 Always live by running water...it gives you a means of escape.

Many boats cannot be bought without a branded 4 stroke in a "package" deal. 2. Guides, pros, and TV stars get incredible discounts to drive the boat and motor they do. 3. Market availability. Sooner or later many will move up to an ETEC and wonder why they did not do it earlier.
Members momule Posted October 3, 2016 Members Posted October 3, 2016 I agree in part with the pro discount thing but so many ma and pa resorts use the Yamahas and don't get a volume discount on the 5-20 outboards they operate. Those I've talked to all across the country say they'd used Mercs and OMC and (LOL) ETECS but get better, more reliable service year after year from their small HP Yamahas. I operate 2 of them myself and both are high use and abused, one a 25 and one a 40/30 jet, and if I remotely thought I'd be better off with an Etec I would own one. So overall I will happily agree to disagree. Always live by running water...it gives you a means of escape.

Well good, that should ensure that outboard mechanics SOMEWHERE will benefit.....and I'm all for that. JFTR, the stuff I say on here is intended to HELP you guys. I'm not a long-standing member of OA because I want to pimp my business. If something I say here hurts your feelings then SORRY, but I've never said a single thing about outboard motors that wasn't true. Four Strokes are JUNK, that's just a fact. If you don't believe me today I guarantee you will eventually. I mean seriously, you've only owned one since last February for crying out loud. So when you wake up to the harsh reality of your poorly spent dollars just remember I TOLD YA SO. ? Would you disagree over a blanket statement about Fords? Cuz I have a few of those I could share too. Gumboot, mosouthpaw and mixermarkb 3
