If I was taking my six year old daughter with me I would rig up a Ned on a 1/16 head in PB/J or water melon. I have caught tons of goggle eye and nice crappie through that stretch of the river. The slower pools we pick up a bunch of largemouth too. Im not sure what the smallies are doing but have to assume on the beds. We went up river the other day with my buddies 4yo son and tied on a homemade hair jig, like a real small one 1/80 oz head, under a bobber. He absolutely laid waste to some very nice gills and crappie. Everywhere there was slower water and grass emerging from the bottom they seemed to be stacked in there. Im sure you guys will have a great time! Thanks for the tip on the Ned. He would love to pull in a few crappie.
steve l Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 My daughter always loved just bobbing in the water in her life jacket holding on to the rope at the end of the canoe as we drifted along. Also be sure to bring along a dip net so he can catch little minnows & the like. And hot dogs - the time my son dumped a whole chili dog in his lap. Careful I said... jig&pig and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Members lukem Posted May 19, 2016 Author Members Posted May 19, 2016 We had an awesome trip. The water got pretty high Thursday night and was still high Fri evening so I decided we would camp at the campground for Fri night and get shuttled in the morning. The water was still dingy, moving fast and a little high and coupled with the cold front, I wasn't able to do any good fishing; we only caught 1 rockbass. But my son loves to camp, paddle and fish so over-all it was a huge success. jtram, ozarks, Flysmallie and 4 others 7
