Big Keene
decided to sneak in some crappie fishing between the storms today, and man was that ever the right decision! fished 35 from 12:30 til about 5:15. the GF and i kept count, and im not BS'n, we caught 70. 1 sunfish. 13 LMB. 56 crappie. we brought home 14 that were 9" or bigger, so i have proof of that! GF took me to school with a 13" slab that is big crappie of the year for us....so far? everything came off of 2.5" keitech swing impacts on 1/32oz jigs. any color seeked to work. we ranged from white with silver flake, to green pumpkin with black flake. just had to be moving. anywhere from maybe 10-30 yrds off the bank. drifting with the wind was best, but it didnt matter much. hopefully this cold front doesnt stop em, cause they are ON! get out there, and good luck!! mjk86
It was good. 35 is weird clear for this time of year, bout 3-5feet, wt 68 degrees. Went to 36 after you guys left and tried to wait out the rain, but gave up by 7. Saw two fellers out fishing on a boat in the middle of that lightning storm....and I thought I was hardcore. The hail didn't pelt them to death? Not sure if it hailed up there, but I was driving back from work in it, and I thought my windshield was going to shatter from that stuff. I was just mentioning to my fishing buddies how it was a good thing I worked yesterday, otherwise I would've found myself fishing somewhere way too far from the car as the hail started coming down. No hail at 36 when I was there just lightning. In fact after the rain quit there was still lots of lightning in the area...I felt like those guys were fishing in an electric chair. I'm just glad I live in the age of the smart phone. I don't go fishing without quick and easy access to the weather radar!
Members Green
Nice job! You can't bring your own kayak to fish the lakes, correct? Also the fish okay to eat in Busch Wildlife? I've never done it before but would like to save a few
mjk86
No, you cannot bring your own boats, they rent the paddle boats for 5 bucks a day. Best is to get yourself a transom mount TM and battery. Ya, the fish outta Busch are as safe to eat as any others in missouri. Check the conservation department website for fish consumption warnings.
