fishinwrench Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I doubt that crawdads have a need to be deep. They thrive in warm water, and the most oxygenated water is usually near the surface. I've heard/read divers say they see them 30+ ft deep but I can't imagine that there would be any benefit for a crawdad to "migrate" to that depth routinely. 6-8ft. is about the depth max for burrowing mayflys and midges here on LO. I do know that. And I never see dragonfly's, damselflies, turtles or frogs out over deep water either. The shallows are where the LIFE is in just about every lake/river I have ever been on.
Walcrabass Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Old Plug, I did not understand your post. Will you send it again please? Hammertime, here is a little secret. Variation in your skirts will get a LOT of attention from the fish. The ones I get can have several different types in them. This variation is in type of rubber, length, how they are tied, etc. I kill the Bass year round with them. People that fish with me get a good laugh when they see how many different sizes, colors, and skirt types I have with me. They usually aren't laughing at the end of the day when we tally up how many each of us caught! Just one other thing... I have found that Catfish can't resist a nice heavy 1 oz. or bigger Jig screaming down through the water column next to bluffs in the summertime with a giant, hairy, crawdad colored skirt and craw. I have made many meals from this type of thing. Wally

Old plug Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Well Walcrabass. .I will try this again. Around here most top fisherman I know are not thrilled by weed guards. They will shorten the, and bend the fiber around giving it more spread. I know one man who will regularly cit them off. My own I make without weed guards.Maybe we got messed up huh. However my own are all cast on X2 hook that sets the hook back farther. As far getting the jig thru the brush. Everything from the line to the jig weight is balanced for a softer presentation. Hammer time Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Gotta be on fish! As the saying goes 90% of the fish live in 10% of the water and 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish. Basschomper and dprice 2
