DADAKOTA Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Just curious as to what water temp the crankbait pulling really takes off. My wife and I have gone to Stockton the week after Memorial Day the last several years and have had pretty good results on the crappie and walleye running Bandits and Flickr Shads. Will the pulling bite last through the summer or will the fish congregate on brush more during the summer.
LoweSTX175 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I troll pretty much year round. It's hit and miss just like anything else. When they congregate on brush I troll beside the brush or up against drop offs.
nomolites Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 It works in all but the coldest water. As summer progresses you will need help(snap weights, lead core, down riggers) to get down to the thermocline where the fish concentrate. Mike

Mike I transition to lead core line when the weather heats up.
dan hufferd Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I tried it Sunday afternoon, with no luck. Last year was really good trolling a crank bait, but not so much for me this year. Things are different on the lake this year. Trolling anything seems slow right now. blacknoseddace 1
blacknoseddace Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Dan, I've had the same experience as you with trolling this year. I've caught a few, but not as good as last year yet. I trolled some on Sunday afternoon too. Did hook one decent feeling fish and it got off about half way in. By the way it was fighting, it might have been a white bass.
MOPanfisher Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Same more or less on Pomme. Usually by now they are congregated around balls of shad, but shad are scattered seems like still. May be a little early still. Buddy took me trolling Saturday afternoon, several shorts and small whites but few keepers. I don't believe he ever adds weights or trolls anything that runs deeper than a flicker shad or shad rap. It is a relaxing way to fish if nothing is happening though. However even a few small whites can liven things up in a hurry. bassfisher and blacknoseddace 2

Hammer time Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I had the opportunity to go fishing with zaraspook two weeks ago, and after we caught lots of bass on c-rig,jig and crankbaits he showed me his technique of trolling for crappie. Within a hour we had 11 keeper crappie several shorts, white bass and blacks, I learned that it's where, how deep and speed you troll. Zara flat knows his stuff about trolling and was kind enough to show me a little of his vast knowledge for trolling! I'm sure he is still whacking them trolling! dprice 1
