Even with 50# braid you better retie full size spooks, sammys, whopper ploppers etc.. That line does get a LOT of stress on a hard cast.

by the way guys, I switched from braid to the low stretch sunline Defier Armillo mono this year and really like it. For some reason no matter how I tweaked reel settings and no matter how careful I was with braid, I would get weird seemingly random backlashes a few times a day on hard casts. Prolly a skill level thing, although it only happens with braid. Problem solved with the sunline, and I don't seem to be giving up any hookset ability.

Braid will blow up on a hard cast for sure. Just have to dial it back a touch.

I've gone from 15 pound Big Game to braid with a big game leader for two seasons to the Defier Armillo. I'm sticking with the Defier. It's just the best of both worlds as far as I can tell.

Tell you somerhing else about braid. If your one of these people that want your lure on target. You can often avoid the pendulam wing you get with mono etc by feeding line till the lure hits bottom. The braid will run accross the surface and go down in back of where our lure hit the water. I use it for crappie fishing for exactly that purpose.

I would eat the cost of 3 whopper poppers to have a nice day fishing. Very small price to pay.

Well it will happen Mitch. It is hell to sit around and discuss fishing and not be able to go at it. I do not think I will he getting putters until fall.and I am only60 ft away from my dock and boat. I cannot hold the rod anylongervfor more than a few minutes. I am experimenting though with various sling contraptions.

I feel for you! You're a tough man, you will be back in no time!
