Members Ffer Posted June 19, 2016 Members Posted June 19, 2016 Fished two half days near Marathon (Hawks Key Resort) First day went after a permit. Caught one around 18lbs on a crab. What an amazing fish to catch. Second day went for a tarpon. Used fresh caught live mullet by the bridges. Saw one grab the bait not 15' off the back of the boat. Fought what was estimated to be a 100lb fish for an hr. Leader was touched - considered a caught fish. Cool but really don't want to catch another-- kicked my butt. Johnsfolly Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Congratulations on the permit and tarpon! They are both great sport fish. Still on my bucket list even after living in Florida for 6 years. Did you catch any other types of fish on your trip?
Members Ffer Posted June 19, 2016 Author Members Posted June 19, 2016 Just targeted those two species. Did catch a monster Jack Crevalle that beat me up too. darn I'm getting soft in my old age.
Johnsfolly Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Congrats on the Jack Crevalle. Jacks like the jack crevalle and permit are like the bluegills of the ocean. They are some of the strongest fighting fish for their body size. No need to claim old age when a big one wears you down. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
